My cynical gut reaction to US-Russia negotiated deal is that the Kremlin was very smart. This is a play to divide not just the US and Ukraine but the US and Europe. Putin doesn't want peace. He just wants a breather to regroup his forces before resuming the war. He wants victory over Ukraine, NATO and the US.
Giving him that breather would make a larger war in Europe more, not less, likely.
