If you want to honor all the trans people we’ve lost, do whatever you can to keep more of us from dying in this currently ongoing administrative genocide.

Frankly, cis folks, I don’t give a shit how sad you are about our past, I care about what you’ll actually DO to secure our future.

For the past couple years, my therapist has been asking me what my inner child needs. What did I need as a child that I can do for myself now? This weekend, I finally figured out a big part of it.

I just needed somebody to listen. To show an interest in my desires, without judgment.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the New York Times that he longer exists
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

I love this so much. Turns out the original Metroid manual had *two* notable errors in it, and one wasn’t even fully known to Nintendo for 20 years.

I’m honestly trying to figure out my favorite part.
The entire fandom’s (and Retro Studios) initial assumption: “Oh she hunts down the baddest monsters in the galaxy and gets paid for it, right?”

Nintendo: “What? No. She’s like humanity’s motherly guardian. What are you talking about.”

I’ve long used another form of this response. OpenAI and others argue that they simple could not exist without mass theft. I say, if that’s true, then they should simply not exist. It’s not hard.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and for me, 3D printing and AI are completely antithetical to each other. And in trying to explain why, I realized in an important distinction I make regardless tools for creatives.

(Warning: long thread!)
I find it fascinating that 3D printing is on its way to being revolutionary while AI is a dead end, yet I only ever really hear about 3D printing from hobbyists while AI is pushed everywhere. I guess it's because 3D printing requires actually making things and doesn't scale well for infinite growth.

I had a high school government teacher who would go on the weirdest rants, about truck manufacturing or the human skeletal system or who knows what else. I thought he was just opinionated and rambly, until it started showing up on tests.
in 3rd grade there was this teacher, Mr Freed, who would go off on these long tangents no 3rd grader could possibly follow about free trade and America’s rise as a global superpower, and lately I have had two thoughts

1) Mr Freed knew this shit about tariffs in 1993
2) wtf was up with Mr Freed

Why limit yourself to time? I often have wistful nostalgia for the universes that never came into being because of the choices we’ve made as a species.
Nostalgia for things that you liked as a kid is out.

The new hotness is nostalgia for things that happened in the distant past and far future.

Get nostalgic for a Cambrian organism or the first white dwarf star to die 10^35 years from now.

I’ve seen this with my own kid’s struggles with reading, and because I wasn’t there for their formative instruction, I didn’t realize what was happening until right now. This is absolutely haunting.

how did i go so long not knowing we were literally teaching people to read wrong. i knew something wasn't right but jesus christ www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...
How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

This feels... exceptionally relevant today:

"We’ve made too many compromises already. Too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn here…THIS far, NO further!"

For years, we’ve done the “God, grant me the confidence of a mediocre white man” meme. And we’ve finally, as a society, reached the point where we can rent that confidence for $20 a month
As a white man, I hate AI for appropriating my culture of being confidently wrong about things while using Reddit as a primary source.

I kinda got two.

1. I can’t imagine my parents even considering buying a set of encyclopedias, but I used them at the library plenty of times.

2. The best time to rent from
blockbuster was Thursday night, not Friday 😂

my unironic belief is that transition itself is a holy journey

there is so much we learn, so many existentially expansive concepts we both imply and live, such a unique perspective we gain which can only be gained through this process

it hurts so bad but we also live richer lives than most humans

To me, it’s no different from any other major life change. I’ve kept a list of “lives” for years, since long before my egg cracked. Every five years or so, something in my life changes me in ways that make me feel disconnected from my past. Like it was a TV show I used to watch.
How do you explain what happened to your past self once you transitioned?

Are they dead? Alive within you? Never alive in the first place? Or something else entirely?

This is an important read for cis people as well. If trans people struggle to recognize our own dysphoria, and thus our transness, can cis people truly be certain of their… cis-ness?

I personally believe that *everyone* should experiment with gender to see what actually works for you.
To all the new dolls and questioning eggs who follow me: this is one of the truest statements I've ever read.

I've become much more aware of my past dysphoria once I accepted that it was worth trying a new gender. Having the freedom to try to be happier gave me space to recontextualize everything.
the reason you don't need dysphoria to be trans is because dysphoria can be impossible to realize without first accepting your own transness

This probably wouldn’t work everywhere (but maybe? 🤷‍♀️), but in districts like these, the alternatives are typically either republicans running unopposed or democrats trying to win my appealing to republican voters. Neither of those scenarios holds any democratic value, so hell yeah, let’s try it.
I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

Just gonna put it out there before Chuck Schumer floats it: we do not under any circumstances need to use this bump in democrat power to reach across the aisle and meet republicans halfway. They're bleeding; it's time to go for the jugular.

Which is especially frustrating for those of us living with a completely real terrifying reality that the news refuses to take seriously.
Between believing violent crime is high while it’s as low as it was in the 60’s, the “shoplifting” panic, this, and more, one must understand that the majority of America is living in a completely constructed, terrifying reality untethered from actual world.
oh god, they're still doing the drug-laced candy panic this year
