Something being tedious, inconvenient, or having reasonable pre-requisites for access (e.g., specific skills, practice, trust building) is not the same as cruelty or oppression. Americans need to (urgently!!!) let go of the idea that a better world is hyperconvenient or constantly comfortable.

I just got confirmation that National History Day, a program that does more to ignite K-12 students' love of history, learning, and yes, even the United States than anything else I've ever seen, had all its funding cut yesterday by the DOGE-axe at the NEH - including for this year's ongoing contest.

One of the saddest parts of conservatism (to me) is the deep shame it instills around asking for help, taking breaks, and feeling deserving of care. There's a lot of entitlement but it so rarely centers around the things that actually nourish and sustain a person.

What is the benefit to citizens or even the state in this deal? Massive tax credits to Kratos, minimal comparative job creation, and further cementing ourselves as a target in escalating global conflicts. This is not the "industry" average Hoosiers want or need.

The incident involving the juvenile today marks the 4th in the past week. The victims have been 7, 9, 13 and 7 years old.

Our elected officials? Quiet. Not concerned. Not a one has spoken up. That's who they are. Even the "good" ones don't care that children are being mowed down in our city.

When I get too focused on the 24 hr news cycle/barrage of political assaults, it's easy to forget that my love for this city + state doesn't hinge on its leaders or policies. I returned here (and stay here) because of the people + places that persist in spite of the hostility.

Doubling down on a "halo law" by saying it's to protect the privacy and "decency" of involved parties is wicked work in a state that just reclassified sensitive medical data as public information.

If his support of this is legit, I've never been more disappointed to be a constituent in Leroy Robinson's district. His frequent snubbing of community needs/desires has not gone unnoticed by neighbors. Unfortunately, he continues to use his incumbency to skate through each election.
If I were one of these three Councilors I would be rushing to distance myself from this threatening and bullying behavior!

Yet for some reason we don't see that at all! 🧐
Despite not having children I got this text yesterday. If you click the link, this is what’s in the email:

A great article for people (like me!) who just don't understand why the heck Indy is so behind the times when it comes to public recycling services.

Mirror Indy continues to enable informed citizen engagement through comprehensive, accessible reporting 🙌🏼
Indianapolis remains the largest city in the country without universal curbside recycling, with the city's efforts hindered by a reliance on burning trash and a lack of direct communication on the delayed rollout from city officials.
Why Indy won’t have curbside recycling until at least 2028

Community is where someone you can't stand is!! (@americascomic.bsky.social said this and now I think it constantly.) Community has to be about more than being around people you like because that isn't sustainable
community has infinitely more to do with helping a person who is kind of annoying than it will ever have to do with ring doorbell videos of strangers in your neighborhood. but you can't turn that into a $500 internet class unfortunately
