The barista at a coffee shop I've recently become a regular at always wears the "Liz Truss" discrete collar. Thank you @postoctobrist.bsky.social for teaching me what it meant back in the day.

Abolish Yarrow Point, and all the rotten borroughs.
Signs your municipal tax structure is fundamentally broken: the Town of Yarrow Point is asking residents to get their new iPhone delivered to their house instead of buying it in Bellevue so they get the sales tax revenue.

There are two modes of transportation: cars and political.
stroads, unsafe streets, and a mobility system that only prioritizes the most expensive and climate destructive mode is in fact a political ideology
Removal came after Texas Gov Abbott directed state DOT to withhold funds from localities if they did not remove "political ideologies" from roads.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire—who has torn up bus & bike lanes across the city—said Gov's order was "counterproductive" but that the city needed funds.

Chinese century, baby!
forcing American car companies to back away from EVs will basically sign their death sentence, they simply will not be able to compete in the global marketplace and the US market will not sustain them
China is probably going to pass 50% EV new car sales this year. ICE technology is a dead man walking www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

"I love my neighborhood, and it wouldn't be half as good without all the apartment buildings," a West Seattle resident says. He used to have to drive to the store; now he can walk, because density makes it possible to support local businesses! "Also, you can plant more trees."

Hey, it's me!
"Seattle can be a haven for trans people, but only if there is room for them," a speaker from High Point (West Seattle) says. Seeing a lot of jazz hands on the side of the room where I'm sitting, along with a lot of stony faces on the homeowner-dominated side.

Seattle urbanists! We need you to show up this afternoon at City Hall for a public hearing on Seattle’s plan for housing and growth over the next 20 years. We’re 30 mins in and almost all testimony has been anti-housing and focused on trees. Logistics and talking points here:

This makes facial sense, but disincentivizing biking will just push more people into using cars, which makes everyone not in a car less safe. It's like how some studies find that bike helmet laws increase the bicycle fatality rate.
makes clear safety sense for everyone, e-bike riders included, for anything that can do over say 20 mph to require a motorcycle license and be ridden on the street
I am generally pro e-bike but am coming around to the idea that these super powerful things that are basically motorcycles or dirtbikes a fucking menace on bike and pedestrian paths
