Who wants some random Siberia facts? ☃️ I was born and raised there (left in 2003, never returned), and I've always found it funny how many misconceptions folks have about it. This will be a bit of an ongoing thread...

Great news! My latest published sci-fi story, "Hard As a Mirror of Cast Bronze," is now available online. (And if you like it, consider buying the whole issue! 💖)

Part military sci-fi, part love story... Enjoy. :)

I'd follow this girl through a whole book, movie, or game
girl who's training for a job on a spaceship: hey why's there a "self-destruct sequence" why do we have that? when is that ever going to be something we want to do? I think I quit, actually

Y'all, Ecuador's intercity buses are sooo much nicer than the ones in the US! 😮 Wi-fi, charging ports for your electronics, zero smell... (I'll never forget that Greyhound ride in New Mexico earlier this year. 🤮) And it costs just $13 to ride across the country! 💖

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I'm falling asleep next to two large knives, in the very likely event a drunk gringo bursts into my volunteer room here on the Ecuadorian coast.

Not all adventures end well...

There's an actual Adventure-Industrial Complex out there. Mostly, it's tame stuff like jungle ziplines. But...

Incidentally, "they teach people to be cynical and passive" is the biggest beef I have with South Park. It's essentially a decades-long campaign to convince young people (other age groups = bonus) that being passionate is stupid and that both sides are the same.

One helluva psy-op...
This is from Autocracy, Inc, about how modern autocratic propaganda works.

I consider this every time I decide what to share and how to frame it.

The thing about these homegrown monsters... They didn't just pop into existence when Trump got sworn in. They aren't evil doppelgangers from an alternate universe. They're your fellow Americans, the kind you'd see at Starbucks, or at a concert, or out shopping.

Just tried a little writing experiment: composed a 10-part flash story (flashbacks and world-building and what not) that's only 944 words long. Let's see if the big sci-fi magazines like it. :)

Always. I'm a die-hard plotter. 🤓 Once you outline everything, the actual writing part becomes as easy as painting by the numbers. 😌

When in the process do you know what your ending is going to be?

I know by the end of writing the first chapter. Normally I know before that.
