Born in the free state of Kansas, so may it remain, in the free United States, so may we all remain. Live in harmony and fierce joy with my Brooklyn neighbors in the greatest city in the world. Opinions are my own, mine, and so are my errors.
This seems right to me
I think an effective message here is that while America has always had these pulls to racism, colonialism, and genocide going back to the founding—and while we have never truly lived up to our promises—our strength has always been our aspiration to justice.

And that’s what Trump asks us to abandon
Speaker talking about how
Trump is the natural conclusion of America’s founding and, like, the crowd full of moms with “Follow the Constitution!” signs is obviously ready for him to go

The reason the conservative intelligentsia has spent decades pretending that societal shifts in cultural attitudes are the same as state coercion is to justify the use of state coercion against the elements of society they disapprove of.
Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

Gillibrand ran unopposed last year. She voted yes.
eyeballing but looks like essentially all of the less-tenured D senators, other than Blunt Rochester, are on the “yes” side
The Senate just voted 70 to 28 to advance the repeal of Biden-era cryptocurrency tax regulations.

This repeal effort would cost $4 billion and encourage fraud.

If, then our Democracy is at risk
Else, everyone is hunky dorey?
Schumer: "If he defies the Supreme Court, then we are in uncharted territory ... our entire democracy is at risk. I believe that if Donald Trump should defy the courts, the public will rise up. Democrats will fight it in every single way ... autocrats only succeed if the public lets them."

Oh wow shocked the media quoted the cringe lib trans woman to portray her as a quisling when actually she said the complete opposite of what they implied. Gee I'm sure this will be just as widely shared as the original story and the original false claim won't just get endlessly circulated right
The NOTUS story was revised twice and the second revision states pretty much the opposite of what the original story stated:

"I swear to you, Donald Trump, as Leader and President of America, that I will be loyal and brave. I pledge obedience unto death to you and those you appoint to lead. So help me God."

A version of the Hitler oath will work for them, too.
"On October 8, 1931, a law went into effect requiring every Italian university professor to sign an oath pledging their loyalty to the government of Benito Mussolini. Out of over 1,200 professors in the country, only 12 refused. All of them were immediately fired." www.chronicle.com/article/what...

In 1931, Italian scholars were made to take loyalty oaths. Will that happen to us?

Pronouns
Since you're my
Senator, and you
obviously don't include me
In your
our
that claims the Torah gave the land to you.
Why do we
in my
country have to worry about your
land? What about those of us
who are Palestinians, they
get in on we?
Pronouns matter Senator.
There isn't peace because religious nutjobs want to claim land for themselves alone and will kill innocents for it.

"Of course, we say it’s our land [Israel], the Torah says it, but they don’t believe in the Torah. So that’s the reason there is not peace." -Chuck Schumer, AIPAC speech, March 2018

People: Look Skadden I know you’re notoriously evil, just like central casting evil, but would you consider not being evil this one very specific way in the best interests of the evil industry and future opportunities for evil?

Skadden: You . . . You found a new way for us to be evil?

This is a great article about the campaign to elect this guy the next Mayor of New York City.
He is genuinely a good candidate to lead our city in the right direction through very troubled times. Rank Zohran #1 !
The Democrats Are Losing the Social Media Wars. This Young Socialist Is Changing That.
Zohran Mamdani may not win his election, but he could offer a strategy to the left.

anyway, this is Curtis Yarvin talking expressly about the motivation underlying the Trump Pentagon's shift to drone-centric warfare: they want a cryptographically verifiable thousand-year reich which excludes the possibility of popular revolt or democracy forever.

If you say "These people can be bigots, and we won't defend you," you will get more space in the tent, because you will have fewer people in it.

“We have to create more space in our tent,” she told me

Re-upping @joshchafetz.bsky.social thread from last week using the term “anti-constitutional” (so important), as the importance of this term is the focus of @jamellebouie.net’s latest in the NYT.
1/ This is wildly illegal. That is not a question on which reasonable legally informed folks can disagree.

It doesn't fucking matter that he ran on doing illegal things. They are still illegal.

And striking at Congress's power of the purse is worse than illegal. It's anti-constitutional.

Honestly wasn’t prepared for how lost and out of his depth Chuck Schumer is this interview. Doesn’t seem like he’s absorbed any new information since 2007. I don’t know who Senate Democrats’ best option is, but hard for me to imagine it’s this.
WATCH: Schumer says "our democracy will be at stake" if Trump disobeys the Supreme Court—but "we're not there yet."
