Ultimately, what I think we need is patience: The patience to explain from first principles, to meet people where they are at, to untangle webs of lies, to refuse the hoarding of wisdom. And this is much harder than shame because you must fundamentally reject that erring is a personal flaw

I was pretty allergic to looking beautiful or feminine when I was younger--partly for feminism reasons, partly for gender reasons, partly just because it seemed like an impossible mountain of tasks and expenses. Now that I'm on the back half of my 30s...

Everyone who makes money on housing understands that strict zoning and politicized permitting is good for landlords and bad for tenants.
New housing stops landlords from raising rents—take it from the CEO of AvalonBay, one of NYC's largest landlords:
"We're well-positioned… we face significantly less new supply. Land entitled for multifamily is hard to come by, the amount of time it takes to get those entitlements… sets us up well.”

worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.
I think about this a lot.

Traffic in cities is a geometry problem, not a technology problem.
Here are 10 cyclists taking up the space of approximately one car.

In London, 60% of car trips are single-occupant

Cycle lanes and cyclists don't cause congestion; cars do

Post 2020 I was trying to make friends by trying to say the exact perfect thing, often being unwilling to say ANYTHING that I hadn't rehearsed in my head first (yes I did resonate with "The Rehearsal")
