These “reforms” would not only give the mayor vastly more power, but also combine with Prop 13 to make it nearly impossible to pass taxes. I’m not sure how the forthcoming parcel tax to fund Muni, which advocates are working on with Lurie, could possibly happen in this world.

The right cannot be "fixed." It must be defeated. The same is true of Dems like Schumer. They cannot be cajoled into serving a better set of interests. They are constitutionally incapable, and what's more, they don't want to. We aren't part of their priority set.

To say this was Dems voting, e.g., to fund ICE paychecks isn't unfair or an exaggeration. It's literally true. That they'd already given up on even trying to do anything about that doesn't change it, it's still in there. This is what constitutional accountability for the power of the purse is for.

I’ve been developing something called the Human-Made License, a Creative Commons–style way to certify that creative work was made without genAI.
I’m looking for feedback from artists, designers, and writers before the public launch. DM me if you’d like to take a look at the first draft.

But, and here comes the cold water, we know what's coming, and it's not good. Capital lost the fight to keep Mamdani from winning, so now they will spend the next four years attacking him, chipping away at his mandate, and throwing roadblocks in the path of his administration. They will never stop.

Gardening can feel like a Sisyphean task. You wear yourself out pulling weeds, and next time you check the garden, what do you see? A zillion more weeds sprouting. But that's how the work is. Day in and day out, it has to be done. This is also what countering Waymo hype feels like.

Idea: a housing bill that enables Waymo-oriented development by automatically upzoning areas with high levels of robotaxi service. Market rate only of course, no affordable since they can't afford Waymo. The worst people we know will embrace this bill and we'll know who not to listen to

I've got a brilliant idea to fight climate change. If we can get 50,000 drivers to switch to taking the bus, it would reduce CO2 emissions by an amount equivalent to taking 50,000 cars off the road.
