There's arguably no effective way for any future administration to undo the strategic damage being done to the U.S.'s relations with these and other states.
No matter what we do, the U.S. will be seen as an untrustworthy, craven & mercurial "partner"—something simply to be endured or hedged.

Finished my open enrollment for next years health coverage and does this ever ring true. We have the most expensive healthcare in the world, way too many people don't have it. The main reason is insurance companies. We don't need them. It's time to rethink healthcare. Long overdue.

It's dominance politics. It's not enough to defeat your opponents on policy, you have to humiliate them. Knifing Democrats in the back who just extended a hand to you in compromise and friendship is about humiliating them and showing how foolish and powerless your opponents are.
If I were Mike Johnson's comms staff I would point at the knife the Senate Dems shoved in their base's back and say outright "there will never be a House vote on ACA subsidies."

Truly amazing that any time the democrats have to bite the bullet and do something that ruins countless lives, there's always *just* enough votes to get it done, but if there is a vote on something that would actually improve people's lives, they are always one vote short. Crazy how that happens.

One of the big reasons this happened tonight is because of The Great Compromise. When you give New Hampshire with only 1.4 million (overwhelmingly white) people the same representation in a body as diverse California with its 39.4 million people gets, these are the deals that happen.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Schumer is spreading the word he was against the deal. But he is the leader. So he either tacitly let it happen or he failed as a leader. No excuse works for him. This is a fail.

-Mamdani and the Democrats have a huge Election Day Tuesday.
-Today, Schumer reacts to this by readying a surrender to the repulsive Republicans.
So tell me: What's the difference between Chuck Schumer and a repulsive Republican?

Fox gives Trump a platform during their NFL broadcast to peddle his absurd lies about "prices are coming way down", "we inherited a mess," and "our country has over $17 trillion being invested in it." Absolutely shameful for all involved.

If Dems accept this deal, it will help the GOP cement the following ideas into the public conscience over the coming 4 weeks:
-Shutdown was Dems fault/responsibility
-They did it for nothing
-They caved to Trump
Having accepted responsibility, it will also cripple them in the follow up debate.

First, I will say this: never believe an Axios backed story with only a Thune test vote schedule.
That being said, for obvious reasons to anyone who sees my posts regularly, I don't think a deal is a good idea for Dems, but the rumored deal seems pretty poor even factoring in my priors against.

IMO there are two legitimate goals to non-cooperation (which would likely lead to shutdown):
-Demonstrate Dem opposition & non-complicity
-End filibuster

Much is made of Trump's ability to bounce back from setbacks and losses. That narrative really defines his entire public life. What's missing from that narrative is that no one with the ability to do so has been willing to deliver the final crushing blow when he's down.

Trump's tariffs are hurting us in two ways:
First, the obvious: Higher costs → either lower profits or higher prices.
Second, more subtle (perhaps bigger): We’ve signaled we’re an unreliable partner, so allies are reorganizing supply chains to avoid us. That's hard to unwind.
