Sh*t's goin' down in Boston, and the Devil deals the cards.

In the pocket of Big Dame.

Wo aber Gefahr ist, wächst das Rettende auch.

I'm telling myself this is the bit where it looks as if all is lost but the heroes persevere.
Today's another day of hearing loud banging in the neighborhood & wondering what cape or ranch or bungalow is For It this time.

(I thought people wanted smaller houses because of lower energy costs & everyone being a minimalist now?)
We have a lot in our town that used to have a nice little post-war one-story house on it. The lot sold, the little house was torn down, a four-story house went up on the lot & the developer petitioned the town to switch the address to the other street the lot's on because that street name's fancier.

My Mom & I are discussing this & in our family for at least three generations it's been "daughters are more loved & parents want to spend more time with them but sons get more resources & lower expectations."

Like if her brothers had wanted to go to college my Gram (the smart one) couldn't have.
It's really weird to see videos of men complaining about having baby girls instead of baby boys, it was always kind of my impression that especially over the long-term men tend to favor their daughters

Trying to convince my Mom to go over to the cemetery to say hello to Gramps & his brothers & the other veterans in our family.

I moan about "nobody wants to do their jobs properly any more" when the conductor on the train only opens one door for 80 people or when I scan a page crooked & go "good enough" instead of re-doing it but "writing about exciting funny spy who has lots of sex" is a GREAT job & this guy doesn't wanna?
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It's so lonely that there used to be 5 other early human species on Earth & now it's just us.

What would the world be like if we were hanging out with Neanderthals (we would be fighting with them; we fight with each other & we're driving many other animals to extinction so of course we would fight)

Holmes stories are full of women choosing good men over rich men & it just hit me that a bunch of people didn't grow up reading this sort of thing & going "yes, of course" & it explains much of their behavior!

Massholes, bring your non-frost-hardy outdoor plants in if you want them to live!

The prequels did get us "Backstroke of the West" & the Auralnauts dubs which have given me many laughs over the years!

I love the idea of the Jedi being hop-head party animals going to raves around the galaxy with their glow sticks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDKr...

There's something to be said about how Kim Davis has barely aged since 2015 & still looks pretty much the same as she did in her mug shot but I can't figure out what.

It bothers me all to Hell that being brainy & hardworking doesn't stop evil from getting its claws into you. www.statnews.com/2025/11/07/j...

Tonight's Holmes has the debut of Natasha Richardson. Face like a flower.

Joss Ackland playing the bounder up to no good.

I love that women are able to get any jobs we want instead of accepting incredibly sketchy governess posts out of financial desperation.

At the pub we were sitting between two parties with versions of the same guy in them & at different times each was loudly going on about how angry he was about people getting government benefits they didn't "deserve."

It wasn't the sort of pub you go to if you're not doing OK in this world's goods!

*rolls up to Dragons' Den with my brilliant moneymaking plan*:

American bars & pubs should sell halfs.

*rolls out*

(My Mom & I walked on the trails in Lincoln & then went for beers & late lunch/early dinner & had a really lovely time but I ended up finishing her beer for her & am feeling no pain)

Woke up this morning feeling like myself for the first time in ages, have pumpkin bread in the oven & laundry in the washer & I wiped down all the counters & cleaned some old N95s & stuff out of my work bag so it won't be so heavy & now I'm just...crashing again.

*shakes fist at iron levels*

Well, *that* made us weep so we are watching some "Wodehouse Playhouse" from when she was a baby.

Looking Cute in Jazz Age clothes is as much a function of personality as of looks, & Collins & Alderton have the personality!

It has actual P. G. Wodehouse doing the introductions from his house on LI
Watching "Quartet" (the non-Jean Rhys one) again for Pauline Collins.

I wish there were retirement homes like this; hiring enough staff & paying them enough that they don't get burned out & kept caring about people would cost the Earth.

I love that Michael Gambon's wardrobe is Just Caftans. #goals

Finding myself going off "luxury branded" stuff; under Bidenomics when anyone who wanted a job really could get one it was one thing but ordering velvet coats or fancy tinned fish when people are going hungry feels wrong.

I do get quite stuck on the way Shmi raises him to be a sweet helpful little boy & the Jedi turn him into a teen monster.

Moms are important!
God its so insane anakin admits to slaughtering a bunch of kids and it’s just a non factor for padme
