King County Metro Delays Planned Electrification Work, Pushing Out Fiscal Cliff » The Urbanist
# Pivoting away from full-scale bus base retrofits that go all-in on battery electric buses means that Metro won't face a fiscal cliff until the early 2030s, according to budget writers. Metro's Gener...

Some of my friends who drive think I judge them for driving out of some sense of superiority. In reality I just love them and want everyone to live.
What is your guess? Without Googling! Americans' lifetime odds of being killed in a car crash? 🤔

Imagine thinking Trump and Musk’s lovers’ quarrel has anything to do with “holding billionaires accountable”. 🤡
Matt Yglesias, Ro Khanna and the Abundance Boys better start hitting the books so they can figure out how holding billionaires accountable for blatant crimes is bad, actually.
Two Trump administration officials tell Rolling Stone that the government may not be above revamping investigations into Musk’s business empires — probes that carried over from the Biden era.

The price of housing is set by supply and demand; and we can observe the balance between supply and demand by looking at vacancy rates.

Low vacancy rates give landlords power to jack up rents.

Housing abundance empowers tenants to demand cheaper rents.

Everyone with money on the line knows this!

Those of you who aren't San Diego Politics freaks probably don't know that Trump crony and tariff mastermind Peter Navarro is a former Democrat and arch-NIMBY. Before tariffs, his big idea was a "housing development moratorium" in San Diego. A huge dumbass across two parties
Peter Navarro's first war was over San Diego housing
Before he was Trump's point man on tariffs and trade, the UC Irvine economics professor was a five-time loser in San Diego political races who defined an era of anti-housing politics.

I assumed this article was about zoning, because that is the most common legal tool used to block projects people in power don't like.

The zoning code in Selah, WA requires 2x as many parking spaces for mosques as any other religious building. This is totally legal and many people approved it. 😵‍💫

Building new buildings is the only way to create the inclusive world imagined by the ADA and Fair Housing Act amendments, but now it’s progressive to oppose changing the world because it’s just more “stuff”.
“Large increases in material output, we are assured, can save liberalism from the civilizational choice between socialism and barbarism. I disagree; refusing to be forthright about society’s structural antagonisms opens the door to demagogues who peddle false conflicts.”
What’s the Matter with Abundance? | Malcolm Harris
“Abundance” by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson is new packaging for a tried-and-failed attempt to escape from history on a rocket ship.

I understand the need to avoid infighting right now, but who’s fault is it? In functioning democracies, party leadership resigns when the party loses an election. It’s past time for new leadership.

Here’s a solution to the “unfunded mandate”:
Repeal the zoning enabling act.

Zoning’s purpose is to:
1. Segregate people by class
2. Concentrate lower classes near environmental hazards
3. Prevent in implementation of accessibility laws by banning any building that would trigger them.
