We need to get real #mapoli. The state’s approach to reducing transport sector emissions is failing, was flawed from the start, & it’s time to correct it. We need to shift from our “EV only” policy toward a multimodal approach that encourages mode shift. commonwealthbeacon.org/energy/house...
House punts on sweeping energy bill that would dial back state climate commitments - CommonWealth Beacon
After intense blowback to a draft House bill to weaken the state’s 2030 clean energy target, the chamber’s budget chief says the topic is on hold until next year.

Suffice it to say, this proposal would be the opposite of what is needed for US transportation policy.

Federal transportation spending has been ineffective, inefficient, and bad for the environment. The Trump proposal would worsen those problems.

US needs a complete rethink of transport policies ⬇️
The Reauthorization of Federal Transportation Programs Offers Policymakers an Opportunity to Improve Effectiveness, Environmental Sustainability, and Access
Federal policymakers should consider three strategies to guide deliberations around reauthorization and improvement of Americans’ quality of life.

Another reason to defer action on reauthorization until after the 2026
Elections
Trump Admin is planning to ask Congress to dramatically cut funding for transit as part of the 2026 infrastructure law.

The proposal would eliminate the transit account, which funds billions of dollars in capital expenses. It would also prevent states from “flexing” roads funds for transit.
POLITICO Pro: Trump administration proposals seek to eliminate transit funding
DOT recently sent two proposals to the White House budget office seeking to pare back transit money.

It’s a question of accountability. Without effective & clear lines of legal & operational accountability we should not let autonomous vehicles use urban streets. This should be a prerequisite to green lighting their use. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/15/u...

Part of me is glad Trump is now unconstrained, and is defacing and demeaning everything he touches.

It means that for the next three years we’ll have constant reminders not just of the need to defeat him, but also of the importance of ripping out Trumpism’s poisonous legacy and beginning anew.
I really think what’s needed here is more gold.

The Red-Blue Connector: A half-mile of subway that benefits an entire region  - CommonWealth Beacon
It’s easy to look at the short length of the proposed Red-Blue Connector – less than half a mile – and mistake it for a project with small impact. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The lack of knowledge regarding the history of the #mapoli Big Dig and the Rose Kennedy Greenway revealed by some on this platform is both astounding and confounding. You can’t know how to adapt urban infrastructure if you don’t know how we got here.

Recent dialogue on this platform regarding the #mapoli Rose Kennedy Greenway reveals how (1) original design decisions need regular review & improvement to adapt to evolving needs, & (2) how utterly uninformed many people are about the history of the Greenway that led to current design.

Watching Mamdani's victory speech, I'm struck by his—and his campaign's—unabashed vision of the US as an immigrant society, a culture built from the ground up from diversity. It is a complete rejection and reversal of the search for a white-washed homogeneity that the political right projects.

‼️
Charlotte's transport referendum has won.

1% sales tax increase is expected to generate $19 billion/20 years, funding:
—Transit (40%): Red Line commuter rail, Silver Line light rail, Gold Line extension, Blue Line extension
—Road projects (40%)
—Bus improvements, creating frequent bus network (20%)
Just with early vote reporting, Charlotte's transportation sales tax referendum is currently up 55–45%. But I caution this is just the early vote!

I will add this is also what Michelle Wu did— she’s not going to get as much attention tonight but that’s in part because she crushed her opponents so hard in the preliminary that she ended up uncontested tonight. Moral clarity and standing up for your neighbors is what wins.
