Everyone hates milkshake tax, the latest Labour policy that taxes milkshakes.
*Five seconds later*
We regret to inform you that the milkshake tax was a misleading headline.

I feel this is an underplayed part of the debate. Travelling across a sea via small boat must be *terrifying*. Why would you want to make that journey unless you were that determined to make your life better?
The best way to understand what is actually “driving the small boats” is “if something carried a one in a 100 risk of death, would you do it it it gave you ten more years of healthy life?”
Shabana Mahmood tells Sunday Times it should take 20 years for somebody granted refugee status in UK to secure permanent status (ie, reapply 6 times) if came without permission.

Aside from the man who pretended to be an admiral, this is the only news story bringing me any joy right now.

Reboot Bond as a surfing dog who rolls dice before taking any decision. Q is a talking bookcase. Blofeld is a cloud that smells of slightly off ham. It's set in the 1530s and is written by a committee of six year olds.

Remember that time the entire country was in lockdown and the BBC made a wealth of healthcare, education and entertainment content available and no other media organisation followed suit? It has its faults but COME ON. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

Mid-40s. Grime completely passed me by despite 00s UK being the peak of landfill indie.
What is your biggest musical blindspot for someone precisely your age?

For me - an elder millennial - it is that I have never knowingly listened to INCUBUS, nor could I name even one of their songs if you put a gun to my head.

[RANDOM CELEBRITY] and [RANDOM CELEBRITY]'s roadtrip to [RANDOM LOCATION].
If the BBC really is on its way out then we need to look at the positive. No more Now show or endless period sodding dramas.

Truly wonderful to see Boris Johnson do his bit in holding someone to account for mendacity while in charge.

I'll never forget the days when Bertie Ahern had to have his voice dubbed by an actor.
Our expectations were low but fucking hell. "The Irish", is it

Brilliant thread. Contains Galaxy Quest.
I probably would have voted for her in the leadership election, had the checkboxes not denied me access (because while I support Labour in concept I don’t agree with all current policies). This seems like a grab bag of wants without hows.

Absolutely loving John Lewis's "yes, but have you actually *seen* Aftersun?" Christmas advert this year.

Similarly: THE PENULTIMATE EPISODE OF A COMPETITION ON TV IS NOT THE SEMIFINAL.

A SEMIFINAL IS WHEN TWO SEPARATE MATCHES OF TWO TEAMS OR PEOPLE TAKE PLACE, WITH THE WINNERS OF EACH GOING THROUGH TO THE FINAL
I have been confronted with an ad for Advent calendars and so it is time for the annual PSA:

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BEGIN

ON

CHRISTMAS

THEY ARE NOT ANY OF THE DAYS LEADING UP TO CHRISTMAS

THAT IS ADVENT

WHICH BEGINS FOUR SUNDAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

One of the great underrated satisfactions of Halloween is stamping on a pumpkin before putting it in the recycling bin.

A friend texts from abroad this morning.

“What game do you want a sequel to?”

Three words:

Fallout: New Vegas

That’s what happened.

Seeing the discourse on this and I’m sat here thinking “Why do you even need the Discover tab that much? Are the people you follow just not interesting enough to hold your attention?”

And if we’re acclaiming masterpieces: Charles Addams’ marvellous cover for the Halloween 1963 cover of The New Yorker. (At first glance, I took that hunter’s expression for bafflement, but now I’m pretty sure he’s terrified. As he darn well should be.)

The Proms are shite, tbf.
The mystery of “what culture is she interested in?”. She did not go to a single Prom. She has no interest in who actually wins Baftas. She is not interested in the Mercury Prize.
The last Mercury Prize went to a lad from North Shields, you'd think she'd be all over that but nope, zero interest

A Irish gothic horror 19th century detective game, which has shades of Blue Prince but appears to be much fairer, couldn't be any more What I Want to Play in 2025 if it tried.
Could the thinning of the veil between the land and the living, known as the festival of Samhain, be the the reason for all the strange occurrences at Blake Manor? #FolkloreThursday

I get *furious* every time I watch an advert that doesn't feature a 45 year old East Belfast man wondering whether he'll ever get that sequel to Fallout: New Vegas.
