Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth...

Insisting on expertise over ideology is not “politicizing” science. The ideologues installing scientific and governmental policy that is contradicted by evidence and data are.

By emphasizing ideology over expertise, THEY have made arguing for expertise and evidence-based decision making partisan.

I think the fact that the president can make up a bullshit pretext about crime, activate various states' national guard units and invade a major city with basically minimal pushback of any kind reflects very poorly on Americans generally

Worth keeping this in mind.
I like this concise explanation for how Germany fell into line behind the Nazis, written by a journalist in 1939 and quoted in Richard J. Evans's 'The Coming of the Third Reich' (2003). (2/6)

In authoritarian crackdowns, it’s important to randomly ensnare some people whom one would think would be safe, so that everyone is at least a little bit afraid that something could happen to them. The regime scales up its power of intimidation over a much larger group than those directly affected.

This is a form of mass murder and of suicide for American scientific leadership, competitiveness and national security. Kennedy is every bit the disaster we feared and then some.
Kennedy urged HHS to move away from mRNA vaccines and "invest in better solutions," but did not specify alternatives.
