I think that as an indie game dev without a large publisher, your target audience is not gamers in general, it is sickos.
It's hardcore sickos that will be diving the depths of your genre and finding your game, and it is sickos who will be spreading it.

my work's solution to try and get me to do 4 days of work in 2 days is to fill my calendar with meetings to let me know that I absolutely have to do 4 days of work in 2 days.

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

i feel like 90% of the people making a "balatro-like" right now are focusing on the wrong things. it's an engine builder. thats the important component i think. not poker, not "existing boardgame but now roguelike".

Publisher bizdev people at events like GDC and Dice trying to sign "the next balatro" should realize that, statistically, the developer of "the next Balatro" you need to be talking to isn't at GDC or Dice talking to bizdev guys seeking 2m+ in funding
