Avoid the violence/nonviolence debate. It’s a trap.

The only thing that matters is what actions lead to more justice and less harm.

Inaction and complicity in the face of brutal oppression is the worst form of violence. Never forget it.

Politics is more clear when you remember that the "waste" in "government waste" is the profit that some rich asshole isn't making off labor in the public sector whose only purpose is the common good.

without section 230, you could have a world where bluesky is liable for me calling this man a clueless, tech illiterate, fascist enabling motherfucker
It’s time to repeal Section 230. We must be able to take social media companies to court for addicting kids and enabling drug trafficking on their platforms.
Sen. DURBIN: Fentanyl often gets to our kids and young people through the internet.

Section 230 absolves social media companies from any responsibility. “That has got to end.”

From the outside, it's looking like the people and institutions that ostensibly should be offering a defense have instead quietly concluded that the foundations of liberalism (rule of law, rules-based intl order) are finished so they're focusing on how to accommodate themselves to the new reality.
I'm concerned that no one is offering a positive defense of liberalism in the face of **gestures at everything.** Just like with patriotism, I think that our side needs a better vision of what the stakes are and what we're fighting for.
