Climate breakdown is driven by a storm of lies. This lying is systemic, funded and coordinated, and operates across almost all media, old and new.
This week's column argues that we cannot fight the climate crisis without also fighting the epistemic crisis.

Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage | George Monbiot
The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

If you rename the Department of Defense the Department of War, then bomb fishing boats in the Caribbean, and shoot an unarmed priest in the head with a pepper bullet, you should automatically be barred from receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for the rest of your life.

Turning the military on citizens.

Attempting to rig elections.

Toying with the idea of declaring martial law.

Attacking political enemies and punishing those who speak out.

If this were happening in another country, what would you call it?

Caught lobbying for cash or bullying in Parliament? You can still return to the House of Lords - for life.
No real consequences. No accountability.
Sign now to kick rule-breakers out for good.

Ban rule-breaking peers from the House of Lords.
Lords found guilty of serious misconduct – like bullying or lobbying for cash – still get to make our laws. I just signed a petition to kick rule-breaking peers out of the Lords for good. Want to add...

Here's something everybody should be paying attention to: Congressional Republicans are trying to weaken the Affordable Care Act and put millions of people at risk of losing their health care. Call your Senators and tell them we can't let that happen.
Shhh. Republicans are trying to repeal Obamacare again. Sort of.
They’re not branding it an Obamacare repeal this time around, but congressional Republicans are pursuing cuts to programs that are part of the 15-year-old health-care law.

For decades, China’s emissions soared ever higher as its economy grew, burning extraordinary volumes of coal, oil, and natural gas.

Now, for the first time, there’s been a shift: China’s greenhouse gas emissions have actually fallen even as energy demand went up.
The world’s largest emitter just delivered some good climate news
China may have met an important climate goal — ahead of schedule.

The gulf between what London is actually like & how it is portrayed by terminally online, self-styled ‘patriots’ & their political heroes is absolutely incredible. I wonder how much it has to do with the city repeatedly electing a Muslim mayor…

London is officially the second-best city in the world, according to a prestigious new ranking

Well, well, well…
Net migration was 431,000 during 2024, down almost 300,000 on the July 2023-June 2024 figure of 728k

9/10 people did not expect it to fall. 6/10 thought it would rise

The lower 2025 visa data shows the current Spring 2025 rate will be lower again, running at about half the pre-election level.
