My biggest pet peeve about public transit policy is when its only purpose is seen as commuting to work.
A good transit system is there to support all kinds of trips at all times of the day, not only office commutes. Groceries, football games, coffee shop trips, concerts, etc.

The City of San Luis Obispo has an ambitious goal of having 20% of all trips made by bike in 2035. They also did the coolest thing — they match transportation spending to mode share goals. This means that 20% of the CIty's transportation budget goes to bicycle infrastructure and programs!

"Assembly line" is as much "identity politics" as anything. So is disdain for academics.

I think it’s silly that it even needs to be said, but for all the clowning about how you can’t bike half the year in Toronto, I was very happily biking in February, and it’s November and I’m still doing it!
