Trying to figure out what #SCOTUS just did with #SNAP, and why Justice Jackson temporarily froze the district court's ruling?

Via "One First," me on what's going on—and why I think Jackson's move was savvy, notwithstanding the awful circumstances that forced it:

Every Democrat running for office should run this as a commercial.
In the midst of a government shutdown, as masked ICE agents roam America’s cities with impunity, with lines at food banks across the country growing, and farmers at risk as America bails out Argentina instead…

One more thing abt this literal shit post.

In both OR & IL, Trump's posts have been central to the litigation--in Portland bc it was the only claimed basis for invasion, and in IL to substantiate the extensive animus (going back to 2013) Trump has towards Chicago.

IL has to file to SCOTUS Monday.

We’re in the second Gilded Age just like the first — when America’s wealth was in the hands of a few, money corrupted politics, and working people were abused and exploited.

It can be easy to feel discouraged, but the first Gilded Age teaches us lessons on how we can fight back.

"The United States is less democratic, less self-governing, more dysfunctional, and more corrupt than it was 20 years ago, thanks in large part to the Supreme Court’s rulings."
For our October issue I wrote about the Roberts Court for its 20th anniversary, how it helped lead us to the current crisis, and what should be done about it:
The Roberts Court Is Winning Its War on American Democracy
Chief Justice John Roberts has now overseen 20 years of increasingly illiberal rulings by the Supreme Court.

Life for Palestinians in Gaza has gotten worse under Trump, not better. So where are Jill Stein and Cornel West now?

They aren’t leading protests in DC outside the White House, no rallies. Almost like the whole 2024 thing was just performative.

It was never about a real “invasion” or “emergency.”

It was always about getting troops in place to suppress Trump’s critics and advance Trump’s agenda.

Remember how Noem said the troops would “liberate” Californians from their chosen elected leadership.

This is an intimidation attempt.
It’s no coincidence that we stand here today, at the Democracy Center, with Donald Trump's ICE agents standing outside as we speak.

Is this a threat to you, Trump? Are you scared of what happens when the people of this state come together to make our voices heard?

i have been thinking a lot about how the entire concept of “the deal” is antithetical to transparency, fair play and rule of law, as larry notes. the deal is necessarily nonstandard, ad hoc and dependent on the whims of the dealmaker
The idea that President can negotiate/dictate bilateral “deals” by using the full force of the federal government to punish and humiliate his perceived enemies goes against the whole idea of the rule of law. That should be the story, rather than normalizing this authoritarian behavior.
