I will reiterate that if you are an independent journo/hobbyist I will happily set up your ghost install and host it for a few quid above cost price.

You set up your own stripe and mailgun accounts, and you get to keep ALL your revenue.

And post migration from wordpress/substack is pretty easy.

The monks walking for peace is bigger than people think.
They normally make this walk in other countries.
This year, they decided to walk from Texas to DC- through areas historically relevant in the civil rights movement.
They are essentially walking the 1961 Freedom Riders route. 🫶🕊️

The Trump Admin is wantonly abusing executive power & conducting warrantless spying.

But Congressmembers including Dan Goldman handed him the ability to do it by voting against a warrant requirement for using NSA surveillance of U.S. citizens last year.

5 things that will fix the corruption in our politics:

1. Ban hedge funds from buying single-family homes.

2. Prohibit Congress and families from stock trading.

3. Remove big money from politics: Ban unions, corporations, super PACs; limit individual donations to $100 per election.

The biggest divide in America today is not between “right” and “left,” or between Republicans and Democrats.

It’s between democracy and oligarchy.

The old labels — “right” and “left” — prevent most people from noticing they’re getting the shaft.

Know the truth.

Then and only then will we realize the extent to which grief and loss looms over every decision we have made ever since

This piece shifts everything I thought I knew about apartheid and South Africa. Or Azania, I should say.

And shifts how I think about our own ongoing, often misguided (or misdirected) liberation struggle.

Excellent essay.

Long but worth the effort.
"Brilliant essay foregrounding the fact the South African Black liberation movement saw itself as fighting for their land in the face of settler colonialism, rather than how its retrospectively framed as fighting to topple apartheid" (@/ontologoff on twitter) www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...
The Land Question - Boston Review
Fighting apartheid has become a global paradigm for justice struggles. That’s not how many Black liberationists in South Africa understood their cause.
