In the foreword to his immigration white paper, PM Starmer calls immigration a "damage", "failure" and "wound". Until today, I would have described my own migration to the UK with words like "success", "contribution" and "involvement" - but what do I know?
This rhetoric feels very 2016.

"I have taste and you don't" is a great way to never get anybody to agree with you. So is "your solution is not the way I would have done it."

The only way to get off doing 12-hour shifts at the feature factory is to defy its logic.
Taste is a dead end; what you should have is a point of view
By justifying decisions on the basis of taste, designers are throwing away the influence they need for preventing low-value feature bloat

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops.

I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III.

Remind you of anyone?

This is Meta’s brand new ad for Horizon Worlds. Not sure how I’m supposed to feel about it.

i know i'm talking a LOT about the glories of the 1990s/early 2000s web and YES part of it is nostalgia, but i honestly believe that bringing back human-made blogging and links free from Meta/Twitter can actually contribute to our political and social survival in this new awful era so LET'S DO THIS

So OpenAI are already deeply unprofitable and had to raise one of their sub tiers to $200, then some random Chinese company comes out and releases something that does exactly what their product does for free. Extremely funny shit. Altman is cooked.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

Why does the Venn diagram of "tech products that bring in revenue" and "products I find interesting enough to overcome my ADHD" tend to be two separate circles?

Most people I share this struggle with can't relate, but if I'm bored just reading the job description, I can't fathom succeeding at it.

Last night my 5yo constructed his first full sentence on his own, not copying anything he had heard before.

After his bedtime story he asked, out of nowhere: “where is gruffalo teddy?” 🥹

He got a gruffalo teddy for Christmas and loves it. All of his other speech to this point has been copying.

It can be hard to know where ADHD stops and Autism begins. How do you tell the difference? For me, at least, there's one very stark signal:

Sensory perception and amplification, or as some of us call it sensory resonance.

Today is World AIDS day and this is a reminder that people living with HIV who are being treated with antiretroviral therapy (= have access to and take medicine) can get the viral load down to undetectable levels and thus will not transmit HIV.
Which makes it crucial that everyone gets access to ART
