Disabled, chronically ill & mentally ill. Trying to spread awareness

Force sick and disabled people into work—and you don’t save money.
You fuel suicide.
Worsen illness.
Deepen stigma.
Break lives.
This isn’t reform. It’s cruelty and it will kill time and time again.

The fantasy that living on disability is just sitting at home enjoying life is just that.. a fantasy

Every single day is a challenge

And trust me.. we would much rather be out working

The US, UK, Germany and other Western nations have enabled Israel’s genocide in Gaza, eroding the rules-based international order established after WWII.

Yet millions worldwide understand: silence on Palestine is complicity in a system that will treat all of us as disposable.

🚨IMPORTANT: Russia has sentenced 16 PEACEFUL climate activists to a whopping 41 YEARS.

Oh wait, did we say Russia? We meant the UK.

You’ll be hard-pushed to find people who ‘choose’ a life on benefits & the chancellor’s rhetoric has been disturbing. My sister was born with Down’s Syndrome and has no option but to receive support. Everyone deserves a fulfilling life & expecting some to simply ‘scrape by’ is ableist and inhumane.

Every person who needs it and is eligible should get PIP.

It shouldn't be "Oh well this person got denied but this other person who is 'less disabled' got accepted"...

It's not a competition. We shouldn't be punching downwards or sideways.

Punch up. Go after the system.

So apparently, the bloke who is leading the review into how to get more disabled people into work has been talking to: business leaders, think tanks, people at the DWP and ministers. I wonder if he's contemplated talking to actual disabled people. I would guess not.

A disabled person might be “able” to do one thing on one day.

Maybe they wanted to.
Maybe they had no choice and had to.

What it does not mean, is that they’re suddenly able to do it all the time, or that it’ll be “easier next time”.

“Able” is repeatedly, reliably, and safely.

With news that many of the people who died in the LA fires were disabled, it's important that we talk about how disabled people are left out of disaster planning

Around the world, disabled people are disproportionately affected in emergency situations because responses don't account for our needs

I get asked a lot by physical therapists how they can get involved with their communities, and the LA fires have pointed out the importance of evacuation planning that considers the needs of people with disabilities.

Disability shouldn’t be a death sentence. That seems basic. Let’s start there.

Something people seem to forget about disabilities is that our energy levels are typically much lower than the average person. Just because we were able to do something one day doesn't mean we're going to be able to do it again the next day

If you reduce disability benefits you’ll DESTROY the economy.

The UK car industry is propped up by Motability.
So many businesses, sole traders, etc… are kept in employment by disabled people.
The NHS & social care system would crumble even more.

And that’s just the beginning.

You don’t need to have been underweight or hospitalised or NG fed or sectioned or even formally diagnosed for your eating disorder to be valid. Your struggles count regardless.

Disabled people can go on holiday.
Disabled people can socialise.
Disabled people can go to the gym.
Disabled people can seem totally "normal".

None of that means they're not disabled.
Also none of it means they're "able to work".

Many people will feel relief from this result. Many others will feel fear. No one is cruel for being upset or selfish for cheering. But remember: this is only the start of the legislative process. And only the start of asking how the state can ease suffering - in life as well as death.

My belief is that in a perfect world, everyone should have the right to choose how they want to die. But when disabled people don’t even have the right to live with dignity how are we expected to trust this won’t be forced on us? #AssistedDyingBill #AssistUsToLive

As disabled people, we are worth more than our economic productivity. Access to therapy and healthcare should never depend differentially on our participation in work programmes or being deemed 'work-ready.' Care is a right, not a reward. #WhitePaper #GetBritainWorking

Have you entirely lost the plot, Labour!

Stop the increased mental health services are 'insisting' upon?
These woefully fail to meet record demand and ongoing lack of parity with physical.

Scrapping even these minimal standards would be catastrophic for a system on its knees.

Just on a train to Cardiff, assistance wasn’t too clear so I was left waiting to get on. Luckily they came in time to get on the train but boy did that get the heart racing. Sometimes I hate having to rely on others. Also why does the wheelchair space have a tiny table, we have things too!

The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu & Gallant for war crimes & crimes against humanity.

The UK government must comply with the ICC, end all arms sales, impose economic sanctions & suspend its trade deal with Israel.

Nothing less will do.

Literally until you've had someone look you in the face while you're just trying to buy milk and tell you "if that happened to me I'd kill myself" referring to your disability, you have no fucking idea why disabled people are so scared of the assisted dying bill. Listen to us.
