the more stuff i add to the game that lets the player go fast the more i realise my current setup of just lerping the current speed to the player's desired speed just isn't cutting it anymore

doing big googly eyes at how quake/src handle this...

i'm once again begging developers to stop putting the nodebuster upgrade tree in their games verbatim

nothing turns me away from an incremental game faster than seeing that same white on black, orthogonal lines and boxes grid of upgrades again.

at least theme it to match your own game!! c'mon...

"I should add some utility entities to my mapping setup to help make better test maps" has quickly spiraled into "we've got source engine I/O at home"

I haven't mapped for source in like 8 years but a handful of entities is enough for it to already feel like home again

perhaps a slightly embarrassing number but between devlogs on my website and things written in my personal notes i've now spent a total of 27 days on my current project (non-consecutive)

that makes this the longest i've spent on any project other than Lil Bugventures (which took like 2 months)

i'm noticing compared to other circles i'm in, on the gamedev side of bsky i can't tell whats "my personal account is also where i market my game (sympathetic)"and whats "marketing bot account masquerading as a person" and that feels kinda bad!

like half my interactions feel artificial!

Finally replaced my old 800x800m fog plane setup with individual fog volumes i can define as part of the map.

I'm getting silly with the colours here for testing but this does let me do more interesting things with interiors
