In 2026 there will be more mass media articles and commentators ridiculing people taking precautions to avoid SARS-CoV-2 infection while simultaneously hundreds of pieces of research will be published further demonstrating the long-term harms of infection.

Ignore the ridicule.

We don't know if the BA.3.2.2 saltation will mirror BA.2.86>JN1.

Yet, I'm struck by complacency & cognitive dissonance wrt vax & possible impact.
For flu, a handful of HA muts is bad clinically, despite OK ANNUAL vax ND50.

BA.3.2.2 is off the map, but apparently all is well...

Sometimes, viruses don't have to be the bad guys...
Sometimes we can use one to treat another!

Chuffed to present excellent work from Dr Samantha Garcia-Cardenas showing how the innate immune system can be "rewired" by a benign Reovirus to eliminate SARS2 infection.

Oncolytic Reovirus mediates innate-driven SARS-CoV-2 elimination in the absence of cell toxicity
Interplay between type I interferon (IFN) driven innate responses and viral antagonism strongly influences SARS-CoV-2 transmission and the COVID-19 disease course. Hence, variant adaptation includes d...

Flu (+RSV/HMPV etc) doesn't have to be "super" to cause profound harm, disruption, & NHS pressure.

SARS2 variants don't have to be "more virulent".

Not being in the emergency phase of a pandemic does NOT mean we should revert back to ignoring infectious disease.

We've been doing wastewater metagenomics for 2 years.

In the first 20 months we never detected measles once.

However, in the last 4 months we've detected it 10 times across numerous states.

It's going endemic again; good reason to get vaccinated.

Three more BA.3.2 detections from US wastewater. Rhode Island (different sewershed, but near the previous one), Vermont, and Florida. All from CDC NWSS data.

Looks like it might be getting a foothold in New England.

I know two people who’ve recently been diagnosed with lymphopenia.

In both cases, they were informed that the likely cause was “a virus”.

They weren’t told which one. 🤷

Dr Oz: “I think we all agree that Covid has passed”.

No we do not agree!

Anyone who thinks Covid has passed has no business in charge of public health.

It’s still here. It’s still killing and disabling.

Get your booster if you can. Wear a mask (ideally an N95) and clean the air!

Now designated XFG.1.1! it was a long time without a 452R lineage being designated. For now it slowly spread to multiple places in North America. Its backbone XFG.1 is much less fastt than other XFGs due to 445P . we will see if it is 445P to allow 452R (as it is for L441R-cfr XFJ-LF.7.9 etc)or not
XFG.1 + S:W452R keepes expanding now also Nevada and Minnesota.
We can't exclude a superspreading event, but in the case this is a classical chain of trasmission it would mean it is here to stay
