To determine that shark bites have not actually increased vs. past years, my colleague here used a top-secret expert shark science technique called "counting" 🧪🦑🦈

Have shark attacks increased in Florida? Expert says no
A shark attack off Key West and one off Key Biscayne are the latest to have been reported in the state this summer. But while reports might suggest that they are on the rise, experts say that the numb...

I'm doing my part by randomly wearing beaded and sequined shirts to class! We need more rhinestones as a society.
A thought, after two days of watching hours of Olympic gymnastics:

More sports, and other day to day activities, should involve sparkly themed outfits.

You don’t need to be SCUBA certified to be a marine biologist. Most marine biology research does not involve SCUBA diving at all. I know several very successful marine biologists who get super seasick and don’t ever go out on boats. Kansas State has a thriving marine biology research program.

The ocean takes up nearly 90% of the heat trapped inside the climate system by our emissions, and about 30% of the carbon we produce as well.

Why don't we talk about this more? The only answer I can think of is, because we don't live there. Yet our life depends on it, all the same. #WorldOceanDay

fantastic shirt
my "charlotte the stingray pregnancy announcement was not a scam" t-shirt has people asking a lot of questions which are already answered by the t-shirt
In my experience as a communications consultant, you very rarely have to explicitly say “this was not a scam” when something was not a scam.

My theory is they're intentionally degrading the in-store experience to push consumers to online ordering only, so they can shed operating expenses, like people to staff the stores, and eventually capex like actual buildings and juke the numbers so they can get a tax benefit on the "loss".

This was also true in Portland (I say "was" because Target has essentially abandoned Portland afaik)
I keep on not buying things—super boring things like face wash!—at Target for this exact reason. I push the button, no one comes, I eventually give up and buy the thing somewhere else. What a weird business tactic.
Re:LRT, I have tried three times in the last month to buy some new undershirts at the downtown Minneapolis Target. They're in a locked case near the front registers on the ground floor. There are three different signaling devices to summon someone to unlock the cabinets. No one ever comes.

Curious if people are seeing the ocean temp story go beyond those that already follow climate? It's getting some coverage but I worry our movement has failed to give the public the context to even understand what potential dramatic shifts in climate predictability could mean. Thoughts? What drives sand tiger shark migration? Temperature, probably! I presented my poster at #OSM24 today. I analyzed sand tiger shark tracking data coupled with environmental conditions, and found that sand tiger sharks left Delaware Bay in the fall when it drops below 20 C.
