Don't worry Senate Democrats have a strategy:

They will keep bringing baked goods to a knife fight. Sure they will lose the first time, and the second and probably a whole bunch more times.

But eventually Republicans will run out of things to stab... they hope.

There have been reports that Trump wants to be the first living President to put his face on US currency. But turns out he wants himself on BOTH sides of it! And he wants it to say "Fight Fight Fight" 🤯

Unreal. Fire the writers. This is all just too much over-the-top wannabe dictator BS. 🎁🔗

The Senate was created as part of the Founder's various Constitutional bulwarks to protect elites against actual democracy emerging in their newly created country.

And even as everything else falls apart, seems like the Senate is still trying hard to live up to it's original purpose. #VichyDems

I'm with the Volts guy on this one.

The Senate was created to suck*.
It has sucked throughout history.
It will continue to suck in the future.

*SUCK = structurally thwart actual representative democracy so elites can insulate decision-making from accountability to majority public opinion.
Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

Great conversation here as @jwmason.bsky.social connects with @brettchristophers.bsky.social and @atwilliams.bsky.social on (to simplify) the political role of profits, capital, and capitalists in the green transition.
I should write the argument up properly somewhere, but I think this is fundamentally wrong. A decisive fraction of the capitalist class does oppose addressing the climate crisis, but *not* because it would be bad for profits. If anything, a green New Deal type program would raise aggregate profits.
Yes, this is correct. And the reason is because our capitalist classes have decided that it is not sufficiently profitable, so they're not going to do it.

We must understand this reality. Capital *cannot* be relied upon to address the climate crisis.

Senate Democrats who are voting to end the shutdown either:

1) Are incredibly bad at politics
2) Can't do math
3) Don't understand how voting works in the Senate
4) Don't give a f*ck about democracy, the Constitution or people's healthcare

with all of the above being a distinct possibility.

BREAKING: The cultural arc of the term "cheugy" is now complete.

The word, allegedly coined in 2013, finally reached me: an aging, obnoxiously unhip Gen Xer who had to turn to wikipedia to learn it is/was Gen Z slang meaning "the opposite of trendy."

I am Cheugy. Cheugy is dead. Long live Cheugy.
