There is something really wrong with people who need workers to be not just competent, but slavishly fake-happy. "Slavishly" used on purpose, bc that's where this grotesquerie comes from.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

A few years ago my local Target leaned into a similar policy and I stopped going because it made me so uncomfortable. Trying to do my shopping and people keep popping up staring at my eyeballs and making me talk to them. Horrifying. Also unfair to the employees. Makes boycotting easier I guess.

Spare a thought for centrist dem consultants this morning.

They just learned their ideal candidate for the Democratic 2028 presidential ticket has passed away.

"someone sucking up that hard does not have your best interests at heart" this is an underrated point
from a person, it would be obviously manipulative (not just chatgpt, from my experience gemini and claude are ~the same) and I'd hope everyone is capable of recognising it as such

Well, an acquaintance who relies on the ACA marketplace for insurance just received a notice explaining that their fee for coverage will be rising. Right now they pay $180 a month. The new price?

$2733.15 a month.

A few years ago I was looking at a Facebook Memory post of my cat demanding attention while said cat was again demanding attention. So I took a picture of him next to his picture. That picture came up today and guess who was demanding attention?

There is a full-on push in NYC right now to use "Mamdani doesn't make Jews 'feel safe'" as a cudgel to get Cuomo into office, and it is utterly disgusting. You know what makes me feel unsafe? People who casually characterize us as a trembling single-issue monolith scared of the big bad Muslim.

ppl forgot the original context of "no purity tests" - campaigns for ppl to sit out GENERAL elections bc the D candidate wasn't pure enough, thus electing the worse R. This PRIMARY IS THE EXACT TIME FOR PURITY TESTING. It's when you decide what kind of candidate you want to run. All issues are on.

doing good MCU movies again. People told me it was great and they were right.

I am finding two ways of thinking about this in South Africa

1. USAID cuts immediately closed SA trans clinics, and trans ppl, cut off from gender affirming care, have since died by suicide

2. USAID cuts have cut HIV/AIDS medication access, which takes months or years to manifest in deaths
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted “no one has died” as a result of U.S. foreign aid cuts. In Myanmar, the grieving father of a 2-year-old boy who died after their food rations were cut calls such claims a lie.
Starving children screaming for food as US aid cuts unleash devastation and death across Myanmar
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.
