My cousin is a brilliant writer of horror, and he knows where to find the best illustrators. And I know there are people here who love 80s horror. If you are one of them support his Kickstarter here, I can vouch that he's a solid bet www.kickstarter.com/projects/169...

Ah hell, just realised my favourite Garibaldi biscuits have become victim to shrinkflation. Brought an extra packet home from my last UK visit to get me through til Christmas, but just realised it only compensates the reduction in the other packets 😭 @sainsburys explain yourselves 😤

Love Martin Parr's work - stumbled across his work in an expo in Hamburg. Hadn't realised until his recent interview on Arte 28 Minutes how much the French love him too. So much gentle humour in his photos, this Brit felt less homesick after some time with his photos. RIP Mr Parr

Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

New podcast episode;
🇫🇷 Dodgy Sarko going to jail and why France's right-wingers are so crooked
🇫🇷 Whatever happened to the Champs-Elysées?
🇫🇷 And why the Lascaux caves in south-west France are so very, very special
Talking France: France shamed by Sarko and is the Champs-Élysées now the worst street in Paris?
A former French president is set to spend some time behind bars in prison, quite a bit of time actually. Yes Nicolas Sarkozy, remember him, he’s been up to no good. Again. We'll hear about France...

Anybody with an elderly relative who has to use hospital services knows this, because it's not just surgery. The trouble is, if they find an issue they have to do something about it. Much easier to send them home and let the family deal with the problem.

For the cat people who have already clicked the link, I did the due diligence, it isn't a Phishing 😹
You are invited to participate in a study about people and their behaviors and feelings toward their cats. In order to participate, you must currently have a cat.

Participation in this research entails taking a survey answering questions about yourself and one of your pet cats.

Ok, mourir un lundi de Pâques pendant une année de jubilé, c'est pas mal. Mais plusieurs papes du Moyen Âge sont morts de manière assez... étonnante !

Farage's numbers look false, skewed or spun

Of the 16% (10.6m) people born abroad, 6/10 had arrived before 2011 [so he can't claim 7m new registrations since 2015]

- about 4/10 of those born abroad are UK citizens
+ non-citizens on visas pay £1035/year NHS surcharge. NHS net gain on £ now
Farage:

"7.2 million foreign-born people have registered with GPs in the last 10 years... All I'm doing here is giving you cold hard facts".

Well here's another cold hard fact - 40.6% of GPs in England and Wales are foreign born.

The NHS would completely collapse without workers from abroad.

I was wondering why the new ep wasn't in my feed
Jam Tomorrow by @rostaylor.bsky.social is now an indie. It's such a remarkable podcast, unpeeling the promise of post-war Britain and revealing this much stranger country underneath. Good time to jump aboard if you haven't already

Still puzzled by people saying judges shouldn't have found guilty or ruled on punishment.

Maybe the law is wrong, then campaign to change the law, don't criticise judges or judgment. We have a current very good example of what happens if you start ignoring the rule of law just across the pond...

Difficult to hear @prifweinidog.gov.wales on #politicalpartypod boasting about #NHSWales. They sent my elderly aunt home with a terminal diagnosis, no home help, no interest from hospital/GP. Local social services worse than useless. Luckily she could pay for private care. It was devastating

There was a recent excellent "You're Dead to Me" episode from @gregjenner.bsky.social on Sojourner Truth, really fascinating woman.
Sojourner Truth (1797-1883), abolitionist, women's rights advocate, who chose to be photographed with her knitting. As an enslaved person, she had knitted/spun endlessly and when free later in life, she taught knitting to former enslaved women aiding self-sufficiency #womensart

This is terrible news, I love following Tim's adventures. RIP
We are going to do a ride in Tim’s @timcyclesthecoast.bsky.social’s memory: Land’s End to John o’ Groats. A ride he would have loved, finishing in his favourite country of all: Scotland. We would love people to join in and ride for a day or two. See timcyclesthecoast.com for details.

Turned a couple of cross stitches into cushions tonight. One for my first cousin once removed and one for me as we both have been recently bereaved.
