We need to dispense with the fiction that journals urgently need our proofs back in 48 hours or whatever. It is ~never true (nothing happens if you submit in, say, 5 days) and is unnecessary stressful to junior folks 🧪

When I first started at MIT, Peter shared everything with me, copies of his grants, lab budget, much advice, etc. I used to have regular dinners with Peter. I learned to always let Peter choose the wine. If not, he would complain about the wine. :)

Working my way through applications to our faculty opening. In a way, it’s even more depressing than grant applications: so far, they range from good to outstanding. Many are deserving but only 1 will get the job.
