cannot emphasize this enough: we need to push the mainstream political discourse towards mass prosecution and execution of ice agents

it doesn't really matter if they actually get killed by the state, but we need to build towards a society that widely agrees they *should* have been, morally
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Penderecki slapped Threnody together for a competition in 3 days and submitted it without hearing it. He was shocked he won, took the prize money, and told officials he'd use it to study western music to counter Stalinist cultural influence.

He used it to get drunk in southern Italy for 2 years.
I should be more specific about the score. It used "Requiem" by Gyorgy Ligeti, an atonal piece meant to symbolize "a funeral mass for the whole of humanity" and whose score notation was pioneered by Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima.

There's layers of symbolism.

The fact that NYT Opinion has done a rash of "Wow, have you heard about this bad stuff going on in Gaza? It seems bad!" pieces this week is a bat signal for people like this to shift from ignoring or downplaying it to being Very Concerned. Time to salvage the ol' reputation.

The agents refused to believe he was a citizen and took him into custody. “I told them we had rights and asked to make a phone call. Israel just committed the single largest killing of trans people ever documented in human history. Per the New York Times their strike on Iran's Evin prison flattened a section of the prison where 100 trans inmates were being held.

Yet they continue pinkwashing their war crimes

why do we live in a world where it's possible to specifically target the "trans" wing of a prison with precision bombing

something that is especially clear if you have studied colonialism a bit: a load bearing aspect of maintaining even a semblance of democracy (or defending a sitting autocracy from democracy) is having a military that is unwilling to kill its own citizens

the cool thing about being a communist was seeing the writing on the wall before the election and pointing it out while saying "hey guys isn't this really bad?" and then getting mobs of virulently transphobic centrist repliers before the election went precisely as predicted.
it’s interesting to see centrists complain about lefty reply mobs here, because in my experience the centrists on here do the same thing. if you criticized Biden/Kamala at all during the election you’d get swamped in the replies.

I'd be surprised if there's any place in the world that's been destroyed quite as systematically as the "Netzarim Corridor". It's reminiscent of images from Hiroshima after the atomic bombing.

New satellite imagery on Google Maps shows what Israel has done to the agricultural communities in the so-called "Netzarim Corridor" created by the IDF between Wadi Gaza and Gaza City.

Don't take my word for it, look for yourself. This is just southeast of Al Zahra.
