I don’t believe being an NFL fan means selling your soul, or even being a hypocrite. But we should probably at least not ignore that it’s adjacent.

Excellent thread. I'll add, since I'm not a public figure and can speak less guardedly, that a willingness to spurn collegiality surely has something to do with being Black and a woman, two characteristics that mean a lot of collegiality other people get isn't available to you anyway.
What's up with Justice Jackson? She started making her mark and speaking out early, and some of her dissents are so pointed Kagan and Sotomayor don’t even join them. The far right is out for her, and even Republican justices are getting snarky.

So what's up? Here’s my take 🧵

Possible to start to tell a unified story: "Trump is personally too old, crazy, and confused to run things, so at any given time the question is which co-president is in charge. At first it was Musk, & we got the crazy chaotic DOGE era. Then Navarro: a trade war that crashed markets. Now Miller..."

Cool cool cool cool cool cool. Using AI to write code to replace the COBOL stuff that's been in use for 50 years seems guaranteed to crash the social security system. I'm not a coder, but I have a lot of experience with old convoluted systems and the ways in which they break...

This. JQA was in congress _after_ he was president and was one of the few people who could stand up and speak out against slavery without fear of violence because he was too old to duel and too accomplished to silence otherwise.
kind of incredible to me that no one wants to be a john quincy adams
The American tradition of former presidents just melting away into the set dressing once their done is a hindrance right now

I'm watching the Senate. Why? What is wrong with me?

HEY REPUBLICAN SENATORS, I MIGHT BELIEVE A WORD YOU SAID ABOUT HOW BAD SHUTDOWNS ARE IF YOU AND YOUR PARTY HADN'T BEEN THE ONES PUSHING US INTO THEM IRRESPONSIBLY OVER AND OVER FOR YEARS.

I can't remember the last time I saw an article just focus on this. Not that they've bent the truth or misrepresented a few facts a little, but that every single solitary thing that the GOP says on the topic is a stone cold lie with absolutely no basis in reality.

Just spent about fifteen minutes trying to find a movie (not a video) called Beenus Tackalovis for my four year old. He described several scenes from it that match The Great Muppet Caper exactly but was absolutely sure it was NOT The Great Muppet Caper.

I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵

It's not that courts won't save us, it's that they *can't.* What Trump and Musk are doing are somewhat beyond what a branch of government with no enforcement power can stop.
The court orders are important, but they will never be enough.

The Courts Can’t Stop the Trump-Musk Coup
While the lawsuits being filed against the Trump-Musk administration are righteous, they will not “save” us from this nightmare.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

Before it's too late a reminder that none of what's happening is being done by "Trump." It's being done by Republicans.

It's Republicans who blocked Trump from an impeachment conviction. It's Republicans who nominated Trump to be president. It's Republicans who declared him to have total immunity.

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files.

It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

If I remember right, it was solar hot water, which continues to be a slam dunk today!!
In 1979, Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the White House.

Ronald Reagan had them removed.

We may be able to trace back the current "Do Harmful Things if it Trolls the Libs" Republicanism to Reagan removing those panels the far more forward thinking Carter had installed.
