It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

This is what amounts to an ILLEGAL & indiscriminate funding cut for research centers everywhere. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, and derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.

We all need to speak out to save lives.

Here's the script I wrote for calling my representative about the latest horrors. Would probably benefit from a better breakdown of how indirects work, but I didn't want it to get too long.

Now I just need to decide whether to call now or wait for Monday when I can talk to an actual person.

Hardly new info, but BSky should know:

Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply.
Thank you, little guardian molluscs.

This was lots of fun to work on! Beyond what we learned, I think this set of stabilizing indels is a great challenge set for methods that predict stability. Our first paper from a (former) undergrad researcher! @yuliagutierrez.bsky.social is going places!! 🚀💫

i sometimes forget this "trick" factoid. it's true!

"Human cells are (sometimes) diploid (2n), but MOST human cells are NOT."
... but there are variations and nuance that are also easy to miss, and knowing the full story adds to our understanding & represents an opportunity to manage disease and aging.

The more qualified truth:
Human cells are (sometimes) diploid (2n), but MOST human cells are NOT.
