Mulholland Drive is a top 10 comedy of all time according to that list's logic

I think the #1 pick is solid fwiw, but for me putting Fargo (a funny but ultimately very depressing tragedy) in the top 10 of a comedies list is malpractice
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

RIP Jimmy Cliff. The Harder They Come soundtrack is my pick for the best reggae album of all time (it seems impossible that one LP could contain so many immortal standards) but he also released a perfect live album. His voice was hope and bliss.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve interviewed Marissa for various publications (6, maybe?) but it’s always a great chat. There’s a scoop in here too about a brand new band she’s a part of… 👀

Feels like over time the consensus swung from PFNO being their best album to Keep It Like a Secret. And I agree with that, but that still doesn’t diminish PFNO at all. Twin flawless records.
crazy how built to spill’s “perfect from now on” is still a perfect album nearly 30 years later

One other obvious thought about Google's pivot to AI search: Google's AI search output is very bad (uncertain, prone to misunderstanding even obvious search intent, not sourced well enough to trust, wordy yet somehow not thorough enough to save you a click through anyway)

So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

And here's my last major piece for the year at @thequietus.com, celebrating the 40th anniversary of one hell of an album. Finding a slightly different way in to talking about this astounding debut by the #JesusAndMaryChain was part of the challenge, but it was a great one to tackle.
Four decades back a major label released a debut album that sounded like almost nothing on earth while still sounding incredibly familiar. Our man in San Francisco Ned Raggett takes stock of it all

Happy Birthday to the JAMC's Psychocandy, which turns 40 today!

Plus: a must-hear album from a virtuosic avant-rock quartet, the fiery return of an essential Chicago rap collective, and more.
