- Dimly lit intersection
- Ped wearing dark clothing
- Driving near the speed limit
- Mostly cooperated with police
- Non-intoxicated
- Weak evidence that the light wasn't red despite video evidence showing it was
This kind of reasoning drives me nuts. No, the driver did not set out to kill anyone with her car that night, but she did do something known to be incredibly dangerous with consequences anyone could have expected. Obviously she didn't intend to harm another person. But she also didn't intend not to.

Passed my blue-green belt yesterday! After a year of doing karate I'm so happy I started. Most enjoyable way to work out for me, plus there's something uniquely rewarding about learning to do something with your body and seeing it become second nature.

Also worth noting that the photo uses much higher contrast on the "bright" side.

You know what actually has pretty good contrast? Someone wearing dark clothes in a well-lit, not dark environment.
This is harmful not just because it's victim blaming, but that it creates a false equivalence in terms of the responsibility of drivers and pedestrians: "bright clothes, headlights on."

Drivers have *much more* responsibility to keep road users safe! And that includes not speeding.
Hey Marylanders! Darker evenings don’t mean more danger on our roads. Just a little extra caution — bright clothes, headlights on — can make a huge difference.

Let’s keep each other safe. Be the difference!

The environmental impacts themselves are high and very concerning, but maybe rising electricity costs are what's going to get people to start questioning the GenAI hype cycle.
Bloomberg research found wholesale electricity up ~270% in areas near data centers

It doesn't seem like nearly enough people are taking it seriously

One A.I. image isn't too much energy, but 5 million videos? Per day/hour/minute whatever. It's not sustainable

AI Data Centers Are Sending Power Bills Soaring
Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers.

This is HUGE: Apple can no longer charge the "Apple Tax" on web transactions.

Epic fought up against this anticompetitive practice; took Apple to court and scored a clear and decisive victory.

Apple cannot collect a 27% tax on web purchases. Not for Epic, not for others.

Cities should be designed for:

❌ A̶u̶t̶o̶n̶o̶m̶o̶u̶s̶ C̶a̶r̶s̶

✅ Autonomous Kids
It is perfectly possible for very young children to cycle through a city to primary school together, as long as you ensure that city has cycle infrastructure that makes it safe for them to do so. This also frees up their parents to be elsewhere and avoid the stresses of fitting the school run in

My favorite fact about the NYC subway is that there are way more daily riders (about 4 million) than the number of people who fly in the US out of all airports every day (~2.5 million). The scale is hard to get a grasp on.
Max capacity passengers per hour:
* Boring Co’s Vegas Loop: 4,500
* NYC subway 6 train: 105,000
