Yes and yet several European countries are embracing a far-right worldview that would burn these policies to the ground, so let’s be not be smug or complacent here - particularly as Mamdani‘s pro-immigration stance is radical by European standards.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’ -- Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Much of the media continue to allow Farage to elide the figures for all immigration with asylum seekers, and the reality for asylum seekers, who are prevented from working, with other immigrants. He is repeatedly enabled to blow immigration issues out of all proportion.
Farage repeating - yet again - the simple lie that most new migrants don't work.

Completely unchallenged by Kuenssberg, yet again.

Remember this iconic photo from Ferguson? This is Edward Crawford, throwing back a tear gas canister to protect some nearby kids.

Like many identified Ferguson protesters and organizers, he was "found dead" a couple years later and neither the cops nor the media will ever investigate.

Yvette Cooper repeatedly refused to give a straight answer just now on Today to straight Q “Will councils get more money to pay care workers more?” She repeatedly committed to higher carer pay but wouldn’t commit to money so councils can fund it. Think that speaks volumes about the mess we are in.

Another story that must be told:

An ICE agent grabbed Merwil Gutiérrez. One of his fellow agents said, “No, he’s not the one.”

Merwil Gutiérrez is a 19-year-old asylum applicant who lives in the Bronx. He was the “wrong one.” ICE wasn’t there looking for him.

“Take him anyway,” came the reply.

The focus on the "white working class" and their "legitimate concerns" about immigration is always about splitting the working class to prevent radical change to the economic system

This has been going on for two centuries
By contrast, working class immigrants and their working class families are clearly not worthy of this respect. Hence this gaslighting that the wide-ranging hostility they have faced for decades from many sectors of British society is no more than the "concerns" of primarily working class people.
EXCL Keir Starmer has told his cabinet Labour must stop looking down on working class voters and their immigration concerns.

In a letter to the cabinet, the PM wrote “good faith paternalism has too readily become looking down at people.”
