Every introvert self-help book has the same chapter on “boundaries,” complete with polite little scripts, as if we owe everyone an explanation for existing.

What I actually do?
I leave without announcing it
I don’t reply to texts I don’t want to answer
I don’t open the door to unannounced visitors

My poor girl isn’t feeling well. Emergency vet told us to monitor her overnight and bring her in tomorrow if she doesn’t improve. Looks like I’m not sleeping tonight.

All the good thoughts appreciated please.

Utterly beholden to lobbyists, staggeringly ignorant and dismissive of the natural world: Rachel Reeves might not look or sound like Donald Trump, but she is behaving very much like him. This government is even more of an ecological hazard than the Tories were.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

There are some people whom the media has decided are "leading intellectuals", regardless of the views of their academic colleagues. Invariably they are people who justify - or at the very least do not challenge - economic power. Steven Pinker is a stand-out example.

Contrary to Reason

When musicians don’t know how to end a song, they just fade out. I think other writers should do that too. Sketch comedy, screenwriting, playwrights. Have everyone talk softer and softer as they slowly sneak off stage.
Novelists can end chapters with gradually shrinking type.

It’s a shame Jane Goodall has to trend with Stephen Miller, but maybe it’s a good reminder that there are chimpanzees out there with more love and humanity in their hearts than that wretched anal wart could ever hold or produce. R.I.P. good doctor. Thank you for showing us how we’re all connected
