I just saw a used furniture listing that mentioned a "smoke free, kid free home." Pets and smoking I get for allergy reasons, but kids?!

can't stop thinking of how little kids died in chapel, praying on the first day of fall term, but somehow Charlie Kirk--a man who accepted school shootings as the guarantor of unconstrained gun access--is the martyr. may God have mercy on the innocent; Charlie Kirk was not of them.

“The most common question we get, by a lot, is: Is this actually God I am talking to?”

This was a disturbing read: AI can't replace encounters with God through sacraments and in community ⚓

I can’t believe it’s even necessary to say that NO city in ANY country deserves or should be INVADED by its federal government.

I thought we cared about people. Isn’t that the real point? Everyone needs liberation, most of all the people who don’t know.

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good;

This is a good article in many ways, but as a feminist dissertator, I would like to take up the author's free gift and assert that feminizing a digital assistant is not quite the empowerment its creators seem to think it.

My more optimistic take on the whole “did the protests do anything” debate is that here is value to showing you are not alone and that a massive number of people are willing to come out and be public even in very far right areas.

Organization takes time and a diversity of tactics is a positive.

It's a vampire movie that's somehow actually about the blues? Fantastic movie. Stylish. That one shot, wow. (You know the one.)
It’s my birthday, and the semester ended last week, so we snuck out to see Sinners. Gorgeous and compelling film. Outside my usual comfort zone for horror elements, but not by much. Great story and music.

Sorry for the bland review. Go see it if you can! Doesn’t translate well into words.

Tradition states that last night Jesus emptied out all the jails. Spent Saturday night telling people “I don’t care what you did, people weren’t made for prisons.” The next day to prove His point He broke out of solitary. It is finished. Easter is incompatible with the carceral state. Happy Easter.

A few years back, a priest friend gave a sermon about the wedding of Cana with a refrain of "Jesus keeps the party going." That's how the last 24 hours have felt. Happy Easter y'all! ⚓

This is why we must fight for everyone. Whether they’ve been incarcerated or have had contact with the criminal legal system or are merely undocumented. When you accept that some people are deserving of detention and deportation the scope of who is eligible is always under threat of expanding.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.
