I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

Hegseth is the most overt Xian nationalist believer in Trump's admin. He always brings Jesus into war talk because Xian nationalists believe Jesus is a Warrior. It is their main image of him-a bloodthirsty, revenge-seeker w/sword in hand.

And they're so wrong.

Crime is happening somewhere! I scrolled by a carjacking snuff film that looked eerily like Russian dashcam footage but was labeled as "Deep Baltimore."

But where I am? Lol no. No crime happening here. Anyway we must stop the crime that is constantly, vaguely happening in any and all elsewheres.

This is a good piece - I’d forgotten about the FEMA conspiracy theories and why MAGA types (especially Christian nationalists) hate FEMA.
Trump and Noem still plan to destroy FEMA, despite the temporary pause in overt threats to the agency.

The hatred of FEMA is hard for outsiders to parse. So I wrote this short, readable explainer of why MAGA loathes the emergency relief agency so much.

No, Trump has not given up on the conspiracist mania to kill the popular agency

Important post. As difficult as increasing the national birth rate is, even increasing it by something like 10% (extremely improbable) would contribute fewer workers longterm than simply maintaining 2023 immigration rates.
