one of the biggest contributors to Elon’s loser energy is that he desperately wants to be cool, but doesn’t understand that a big part of being cool is appearing unaffected. he’s one of the most affected men of all time.
Joyce Carol Oates owned Elon so hard he's spent the last day posting about movies he hasn't seen in 15 years

Need to work my way up to being the boss of somewhere so I can ban the use of voice notes.
Sending a voice message to a colleague should be a sackable offence tbh.

Gen Alpha won’t ever have to write an email when they join the workforce, new research reveals—they’ll be sending voice notes to their boss instead | Fortune
LSE researchers say Gen Alpha will talk, not type at work—they predict that voice notes will make keyboard practically obsolete by 2030.

Love that the Total Jobs website just decides to not work all the time. Click "apply" and then get an "oopsy *that's*! not supposed to happen" page because it didn't load.
Brilliant. Thanks.

I've had fun rereading Stormlight Archive this year but I cannot explain how excited I will be to be done because it frees up so much time for more books.

I'm 3,300 pages down, aiming for another 1,200 before the end of the year.
Think how many books I can read with that time next year!

When you avoid giving your toddler sugar they end up with weird vices instead. My little bean is currently decimating a paper cup of mayonnaise.

Job hunting is always soul sucking but this time around it feels especially so. Juggling the need for flexibility now I have a 1 year old with me trying to avoid social media specific roles, at a time where the job market is especially slow... Has been pretty damn awful.

I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.

I might just be a picky bitch but I swear I cannot find pizza I actually find satisfying. Like the way pizza hut used to be.

How did Dominoes win the takeout pizza war? It's the worst one and now it's my only choice.

Also I don't know if this speaks to blue sky or signifier's audience but I'm amazed that I got shared by such a big creator and only got positivity in my notifications.

What in the actual fuck? Googles AI basically hallucinated that I somehow accused my podcast host & close friend of toxic behavior & harassment - killing her channel. Keep in my, Vera and I host a podcast together regularly and are good friends and her channel is amazing. This is absolutely fucked.
Council of Geeks is over.
I only just learned myself thanks to Google’s AI summary. Thanks Google for letting me know my channel is dead. Some digging, using Google’s AI mode, revealed it’s because of the toxic feud between me and @jessiegender.bsky.social

I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

The new @fdsignifier.bsky.social video about Sinners is a great example of what I love about his work. I'm following along, with these concepts percolating in my head. And then eventually there's the "ah ha" moment. A new way of seeing, not only the movie, but the industry and culture as well.

Very happy that flakes are replacing eclairs in the Christmas heroes tub (but only the paper ones?)
I like an eclair but putting a toffee that takes an age to chew amongst chocolates that are quick to eat is insanity.

This is an utterly nonsensical way to report the really relieving news that Plaid Cymru, a party which espouses all sorts of liberal values including trans rights, etc. (and which isn't even mentioned in this headline!!!) won the election by a 47% landslide, well ahead of Reform as well as Labour.
Amazing

This tattoo shop is in Manchester. Which means you can get your Harry Potter tattoo removed and then go over to Queer Lit and find a new book to fall in love with. There's even a trans section!

Yeah I think there are going to be more families who do the equivalent of “we don’t own a TV, we simply all sing madrigals around the piano by candlelight for entertainment” during these next decades. There isn’t a safe amount of AI slop for kids to be exposed to. So if a platform has it: then no.
NB TikTok is totally blocked on my kids’ devices, but thanks to the fact all their videos are fully downloadable (how is THAT legal) it’s inescapable - all big websites are now video scrolling services, even Spotify etc, and they’re all full of TikTok slop

Just had a baffling call with a recruiter. She called me, asked what I'm doing now. I said "job hunting" which apparently was somehow the wrong answer?
Then when I explained I'd been on maternity leave she said the job she had needed (it was quiet but I think she said "someone from work")
Me: ok..

I can beat the medievalists! In 61 CE, revolting British natives attacked the Roman colony of Camulodunum (Colchester). In 2015, in a domestic space, archs found the remains of a whole box of coriander as well as fenugreek, poppy seeds, cumin, & other Indian spices. Homesick Roman women made curry.
I'm pretty sure there were Indian spices in England before potatoes.

Potatoes (a main ingredient in both the “traditional” Sunday roast and fish & chips) only arrived in the British Isles from South America around the 1580s, & didn’t catch on as a popular food until the late 18th century; which is also about the same time curry arrived in the UK
