A friend brought me two loaves of fresh homemade bread, and I realize I’m thousands of years late on this, but we should all quit what we’re doing society-wise and just bake bread for each other.

Explaining to my wife why I’m not very into Westerns or space stuff: I dunno. Men seem really into both of them. So that makes me wary about the whole thing.

On our final vet trip, I wasn’t prepared to make arrangements because I’d never lost a pet as an adult. They’re listing them off, and one was to have Janet cremated and scattered at a coral reef and all I could think in the moment was “…our cat never expressed a desire for the sea.”

True story. Before ADHD meds, to fake highly-functioning, I smoked two packs a day and chased them down with a daily 12-pack of Diet Coke *and* 12 cups of coffee (or 12 espressos in to-go lattes). Every day. My whole adult life. Now I often forget to even finish my first coffee after I pour it.
I guess I can drink twelve coffees a day while chain smoking if you want me to do this in a socially acceptable manner, I just don't see how that's better for my physical or mental health than Vyvanse, y'know?

Ooh the Andrea Gibson documentary Come See Me in the Good Light is on Apple TV and so far, it will break your heart, but so did their poetry and I’m glad to see them remembered.

My mom (usually amazing): You said you had a hard week. What’s up?

Me: Um. My next door neighbor burned to death in a house fire and then my cat died…

Mom: Oh. I thought you meant work or something.

M’am. Is this not enough for you?

It's not a foolproof plan but every political debate from now on should be a Normal Guy competition. Ask them to describe grocery shopping in detail. Talk about what it's like to have a friend

Every time I start to plan where to be when for holidays, I become convinced we should go back to the old ways where marriage means you become of the property of a new family too far away to be expected to ever see the other one again. Just a tasteful letter once a month. Feels more reasonable.

Talked to a fancy statistician with a royal flush of degrees and it took him a full 30 minutes of lecturing to let me get in a word edgewise to let him know that I had been working with these new-to-him reports for a decade and didn’t need a primer. Be curious about other people first, sir.

I really like the Sharpie fine-point felt tip pens and every time I leave the house I grab one and toss it into my purse in case I need a pen. I just found nine identical pens floating around in my not-large bag.

Thing that rattles around in my head:

Fifteen or so years go I attended a book event for two ghost hunters. One of them just casually said, "As we all know, ghosts can't move anything heavier than a five-pound bag of flour."

I think about this ALL. THE. TIME.

One problem with liking spooky old house movies is that often you click to watch and expect the “family’s dark secret” in the description to be a ghost/
demon/ dark ritual, and it ends up just being generations of human violence against women.

Of course someone at work has a great idea for a new outreach campaign for *me* to run. Why don’t people ever get ideas to add work to their own plates, I wonder?

Having lived in Atlanta & DC, Pittsburgh feels like a miracle, cost-of-living-wise. No city is perfect, but between being *shocked* to meet a Republican in city limits, lack of pretension, and good people, it’s pretty great. Yinz are all welcome (but you gotta act right). apple.news/A9EJpP3kxTre...
