It's not a foolproof plan but every political debate from now on should be a Normal Guy competition. Ask them to describe grocery shopping in detail. Talk about what it's like to have a friend

Every time I start to plan where to be when for holidays, I become convinced we should go back to the old ways where marriage means you become of the property of a new family too far away to be expected to ever see the other one again. Just a tasteful letter once a month. Feels more reasonable.

Talked to a fancy statistician with a royal flush of degrees and it took him a full 30 minutes of lecturing to let me get in a word edgewise to let him know that I had been working with these new-to-him reports for a decade and didn’t need a primer. Be curious about other people first, sir.

I really like the Sharpie fine-point felt tip pens and every time I leave the house I grab one and toss it into my purse in case I need a pen. I just found nine identical pens floating around in my not-large bag.

Thing that rattles around in my head:

Fifteen or so years go I attended a book event for two ghost hunters. One of them just casually said, "As we all know, ghosts can't move anything heavier than a five-pound bag of flour."

I think about this ALL. THE. TIME.

One problem with liking spooky old house movies is that often you click to watch and expect the “family’s dark secret” in the description to be a ghost/
demon/ dark ritual, and it ends up just being generations of human violence against women.

You’d think a person from Georgia would be sick to death of The Devil Went Down to Georgia, but nah. Play it again.

My Georgia Bulldogs play at 7:30 pm which is so far away. Practically after hours.

Of course someone at work has a great idea for a new outreach campaign for *me* to run. Why don’t people ever get ideas to add work to their own plates, I wonder?

Having lived in Atlanta & DC, Pittsburgh feels like a miracle, cost-of-living-wise. No city is perfect, but between being *shocked* to meet a Republican in city limits, lack of pretension, and good people, it’s pretty great. Yinz are all welcome (but you gotta act right). apple.news/A9EJpP3kxTre...
How this major city became one of America’s most affordable for home buyers — The Washington Post
While there are many yardsticks for calculating housing affordability, the western Pennsylvania city stands out as uniquely livable.

Imagine smiling in photos for years, having your best friend killed in prison, having that on your conscience, and THEN finding out that your best pedo friend has been emailing everyone you know about what a slime ball YOU are and how gross you are. If you had human feelings, that would be a blow.

Bad Janet’s heart and kidneys were struggling so we had to say goodbye last night. The vet ensured it was very peaceful and Lex was holding him when he went but we are devastated. I hope that heaven is a sunbeam and birds outside the window and a soft place to lay your head, sweet boy.

Bad Janet is so listless and not eating that we took him to pet urgent care (a thing I just found out exists) and after diagnostics they’re having us take him to the Vet ER for overnight IV for his wee kidneys. Our tiny son. Not sure what, but they think he may have eaten something bad. Poor baby!

I have hit an administrative wall that involves a company *postal mailing* me a form to sign and postal mail back. I thought we had shut that down in 2020. This is ludicrous.

Our local newspaper guild has been on strike for over THREE YEARS and this is a huge win. Delighted to see it.
BREAKING: We won!

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

I know that I’ve had an abnormal and stressful few days, and the time change, and it’s raining and possibly going to snow, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be frustrated with myself that I only want to be in my bed forever.
