As rents continue to rise across the country, they're falling by ~12% to 16% in Jersey City. Why? The city spent 2019 to 2024 on an absolute building tear. Building more housing works. jerseydigs.com/jersey-city-...
After Years of Increases, Study Says Jersey City’s Rents Are Falling | Jersey Digs
A new report says the average rent in Jersey City is falling, with a year-on-year decline in the double digits.

Respectfully, madam mayor, this is an area that requires leadership, not pandering to the loudest voices in the room. Everyone wants less traffic and safer roads. It's up to you to decide how we're going to get there then do it *right*.
I meant to circle back & say: some of the concerns might not match facts & that’s on us to have data & share it. But in any case, these are citywide concerns that I hear in every community mtg even when transpo isn’t on the agenda. Must recognize what residents are saying & keep improving designs.

90% of voters would not even believe that this is controversial.

(So just fucking do it already!!!)
BREAKING: Massachusetts House introduces the "Legalizing Massachusetts in All Massachusetts Communities Act."

The bill would require all municipal zoning ordinances be updated to ensure they are no more restrictive than dimensions and uses of housing already there.

So just to recap the current policy...

Protesters: Masks to conceal identity not allowed
Federal Agents:
Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.

Administration obsessed with "waste, fraud, and abuse" causes massive waste by blowing up project deadlines all across the country.
in the continuing saga of using CTRL-F to find "woke" functions of government, apparently DOT is refusing to sign off on any NEPA document and every project in the country is on hold

Cities should be designed for:

❌ A̶u̶t̶o̶n̶o̶m̶o̶u̶s̶ C̶a̶r̶s̶

✅ Autonomous Kids
It is perfectly possible for very young children to cycle through a city to primary school together, as long as you ensure that city has cycle infrastructure that makes it safe for them to do so. This also frees up their parents to be elsewhere and avoid the stresses of fitting the school run in

Awful: Internal USAID memo instructs employees to refrain from talking to the media about cuts in assistance to the most vulnerable or they may get fired, WaPo reports.

Trumpworld knows this is a big political problem for them. Keep the focus on it.

Trump-Musk Scandal at USAID Takes Unnerving Turn With Vile Leaked Memo
Can Trump and his top advisers really just act with total impunity? Or is there, just maybe, a price to be paid for starving poor people and un-indicting a corrupt mayor?

Okay so I know I often have my differences with our mayor but I still think this is pretty exciting. Congrats @mayorwu.boston.gov!

Cities will be all like "its snowing, please don't drive if you can avoid it, it's dangerous to drive in the snow," and then do shit like this to make driving the only real choice to get around.
"A city's priorities become as clear as the spaces they choose to maintain in the winter."

what if instead of being transphobic garbage, KOSA was actually the Kids Outside Safety Act and it was a sweeping federal investment in modern bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure (w/ shade trees) across the nation so that the most vulnerable members of society are able to safety go outside to play

“For half a century, a litany of federal policies has favored large SUVs & trucks, pushing automakers & buyers toward larger models. Instead of counteracting #CarBloat thru regulation, policymakers have subtly encouraged it. That has been a boon for car companies but a disaster for everyone else.”
The reckless policies that helped fill our streets with ridiculously large cars
Dangerous, polluting SUVs and pickup trucks took over America. Lawmakers are partly to blame.

There’s a reason that Republicans, despite campaigning on spending cuts for a generation, have only managed to grow the deficit instead.

(Hint: It’s not about cutting costs, it’s just about cutting social programs they don’t like)

When we talk about making America "great" again, we should remember that cities like Memphis used to see 80 trains daily. Now, it only sees 2 per day.

Building apartments and transit without a years long approval process. Putting “government bureaucrats” back in charge at our state transportation departments so that we can do effective contractor oversight again.
These are polarized times, but we can't cede the idea of "government efficiency" to the cynical right. What would efficiency that really helps people look like?

Public healthcare and college, no means testing. No humiliating red tape for SNAP, FEMA, debt relief. Websites for UI that actually work.
