Dad of 3. 🚲 Cargo Biker. 💻 Tech/Data nerd. ⚾️ #Mets fan. Appreciate craft beer, whiskey, fire pits, and good books. I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary to me.

Hi #AlexSkeets! 👋 I’m Brian - a Rosemont dad you’ve probably seen hauling 3 kids around the neighborhood on a cargo bike.

I’m a tech nerd, avid reader, and beer enthusiast.

Big thanks to @martaschantz.bsky.social for the intro! Looking forward to connecting.

In a functional party system, this kind of capitulation in the face of authoritarianism could mean the end of the Democratic Party.

In our system, it could mean the end of the two party system. Neither party can represent the pro-democracy majority. It's time for something new.

people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

We're all going to write pieces about what you can learn from tonight but it's actually pretty simple: The frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

this is something that individual members of Congress could do tomorrow. The government is shut down so they could use their district offices. I suggested in January that they turn those offices into full on community centers where people could find each other re: mutual aid etc...
If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

It's important for prominent Democrats, especially those running for president, to loudly promise they'll throw the full weight of the DOJ into prosecuting illegal acts committed by Trump officials during his administration. If people fear a prison cell, they're more likely to abandon the GOP.

Nobody under 30 has seen a presidential election ballot without Trump. We're halfway into a generation that doesn't know any other kind of GOP, this is the version of Republican politics they eagerly signed up for and made a career out of.
Some of those people are currently on the staff of elected Republicans, in fact. They’re part of the present of the GOP.
Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

Very cool and awesome that Congress can pass a law which functions as intended but 60 years later an unelected, unaccountable 9-member superlegislature can just say "Nah" and poof the law doesn't exist anymore.
Wednesday is gonna be a rough day:

The Supreme Court will be hearing oral argument in a pair of cases that threaten what little remains of the federal government’s ability to protect voters from racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act

I think Democrats should claim that they're going to make immigration tougher, and then simply describe a better version of system when asked about it. Polling consistently shows that the public wants to get tougher, and also that their version of tougher is *weaker than the actual system now.*
