Math prof. Enthusiastic amateur at biking, circus, embroidery, knitting, puzzles of all kinds, and sewing. Figuring out this parenting shit on the fly.
Yes, and! By and large, students want a real education. Not all of them, every day, obviously. But they understand that plugging a q into genAI is not the same thing as learning.
It’s simply stupid to insist that educators not work to limit its use while also insisting that they supply adult yet helpless students with rigorous educations and degrees that reflect that rigour. It’s also an abdication of what is — if genAI is, ex hypothesi, everywhere — a shared responsibility.

the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

There is a direct correlation between how fake your job is and how much value you see in AI
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

This. Chicago continually fails the Be Normal About An Animal challenge, & honestly, I love that for us
I love how much Chicago comes out any time some animals show up that we don’t usually see

If more parents and educators did this, games like Prodigy would be in the garbage bin where they belong and we’d have actual strategy/logic games as part of math classes.
A second spicy take: If you’re a parent, teacher, or anyone else who hangs out with kids, you should play video games. Learn what’s out there, figure out what you like, try to understand the appeal. Basically, have an educated opinion instead of a knee jerk reaction.
1. Congrats!
2. My spicy take is that we (my generation) sound like the boomer parents arguing that Rock and Roll Isn’t Music, when we try to pretend video games aren’t art.

Govt is closed: can’t give out snap benefits, but can still send emails telling grocery stores it’s not ok to help people get food in other ways. Make it make sense.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Tylenol doesn’t cause autism.

Vaccines don’t cause autism.

Starvation and malnutrition are far bigger threats to the health of children than any of the distractions Trump and RFK Jr want to point you towards.

You want to protect kids? Demand they fund SNAP.

Don’t let people starve.

Some real Ministry of Truth shit here
“The use of force that I’ve seen has been exemplary — the least amount of force necessary to accomplish the mission,” Bovino told @cbsnews.com Friday. “If someone strays into a pepper ball, then that’s on them. Don’t protest and don’t trespass.”

of all the dumb shit that sucks these days, the dumbest and pettiest shit that sucks is the way people fetishize debate. i would like to revert to the old roughly agreed-upon cultural understanding that debate club is for boring friendless nerds
