Incredible loss. Chess won’t be the same without him.
GM Daniel Naroditsky passed away. He was a talented chess player, commentator, and educator. FIDE extends its deepest condolences to Daniel’s family and loved ones.

It's also not so much that they're "hoarding" money -- most of it's "invested" in some form of economic activity -- it's that they're in control of where the money's directed, and it's "invested" in their priorities -- which are mostly bubbles, enshittification, and private equity asset-stripping...
“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

btw this is also personal to me bc a lot of people (particularly those experiencing even low level psychosis) also don't like smartphones due to being terrified of being tracked. they literally don't trust them. (and they probably shouldn't lmao) they still deserve to be able to take the goddamn bus
and yes this is personal to me. my gran nor either of my uncles nor my grandpa nor my neighbor have smartphones. that's 5 people in my life who don't have smart phones

Whenever anarchism — or any idea more radical than the status quo — gets dismissed as unserious, it's worth remembering the current system runs on things like "we put all the money on a scam machine that tells rich dipshits they're god."
"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."

As a #libertarian for over 15 years, few things anger me more than people pretending to care about *FREEDOM* and *LIBERTY* while simultaneously cheering on a tyrannical government bullying, censoring, kidnapping, and murdering people they don’t like.

I still don't get how people keep going "well, someone needs to be in charge" and like, no? Individual people especially. One teacher can barely handle a classroom of 30 students, how is one politician supposed to handle thousands or millions of people?

If the government shuts down, who will funnel our taxes to military contractors? Who will tap our phones, raid communities, and deport people?

Unfortunately, the shutdown won't stop those.

The real problem is that the shutdown doesn't go far enough. Make the shutdown comprehensive and permanent!
Anarchists: Government Shutdown Doesn't Go Far Enough
If the government shuts down, who will funnel our taxable income to military contractors? Who will tap our phones and read our email? Who will deport and imprison people? Whatever shall we do?
