It's a dark time for artists. Many are struggling!

It's easy to buy gifts online. When you buy from *artists*, you're supporting working people, instead of making rich jerks richer.

This fall, send your present $$ to an artist's shop!

Artists! Drop your shop links!

Someone tell me that greatly reworking research statements and teaching statements is unnecessary for institutions of the same general type and not a good use of my time.

The overwhelming urge to rework things every time because of general nervousness of job app shit.... 🫠

Bahahahahaha The New York Times just printed an opinion piece declaring "AI is intelligent, so long as we redefine what intelligence means to include it. And soon AI will be conscious, because we'll just redefine consciousness too!"

Nothing means anything! Yay!

Regardless of tonight's vote, it is absolutely insane that the richest country in the history of the world is so inept and incapable of feeding or taking care of its people. Its even more insane that half of voters keep choosing this.

It's funny how hard we have to work to convince the world that uncontrolle data centre expansion is a climate risk when there's a fossil gas power station called the EXXONMOBIL POWER PLANT being built explicitly to power a data centre
Not enough people know about Homer City. The single largest fossil fuel plant that's being built *explicitly* to power a data centre.

This isn't a future projection, or some hollow marketing. This is physical stuff happening right now.

On the topic of speech-to-text: Norway's national broadcaster NRK is cutting pay for subtitlers bc they're replacing manual translation w/ machine outputs

Absolutely inevitable trajectory: results that get worse and worse and worse as companies have to exponentially enshittify with worsening slop
NRK kutter i honoraret til tekstere – skal bruke mer KI
NRK skal effektivisere tekstingen ved hjelp av kunstig intelligens (KI). For teksterne betyr det et heftig kutt i honorarene.

Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

Well put. Seething anger is a square peg for this idiot shaped hole.
I'm seeing what might be the highest saturation of rage on my Bluesky feed since joining. Even folks who generally steer clear of political discourse are tearing into Schumer and the "old guard". Rest assured I share your anger; I'm beyond sick of villains winning and our side capitulating.
