EEEE AND THIS NEWS
The Morgana le Fay anthology is now available in the US! Find my story, "Mirror, Mirage," alongside several other wonderful retellings. 🪞✨

Morgana is a fascinating mythic figure. Over centuries, she's shape-shifted into many archetypes, reflecting how women are perceived throughout history. (1/?)

I love this move by @wired.com and hope other publications will follow. Public records (like public lands!) belong to all of us.
wired.com WIRED @wired.com · Mar 18
They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

Those who know me know I was highly critical of what I saw as some of the rhetorical excesses of the campus protests. Khalil and I wld probably get into a spat immediately. It's all the more important for people who believe as I do to say clearly, the protections of the law are for everyone.
A federal judge in NY has blocked any effort by the Trump administration to deport Mahmoud Khalil – whose arrest and imminent deportation Trump celebrated on Turth Social today — until further proceedings play out. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

It's now that time of year again that I am beefing with this one (1) particular squirrel who likes to use my patio for things, usually my plants for sunflower seed storage. Today though? They just ripped the tassels off my outdoor pillows and yes, I am sure it's so cute and fluffy in its nest. BUT

Oh! She has! In at least one interview she talked about the briefings she's received on counter-intelligence. She has made music videos to click tracks instead of audio so it wouldn't leak.
Taylor Swift is a legitimate security expert like almost nobody in the world. She has to be. She's the target.
I just want a serious journalist to ask actual Taylor about InfoSec. She’s sufficiently impressive I wouldn’t be surprised if she gave a cogent answer. Like Guy Goma in reverse.

It does seem very strange for this to be a one-time, Seattle-only special Hugo category, especially given the vibrancy (but the nonetheless under-read vibrancy) of the sff poetry field.
A few speculative poets and I are in conversation about proposing a permanent poetry Hugo this year, with the goal of getting it on the ballot for future years.

Speculative poetry is a huge part of the SFF community.

If anyone has experience that could be helpful, I'd love to hear your ideas.

Read aggressively, read broadly, try to figure out how the writers you admire pull off their tricks. This will help you more than any workshop or MFA program, but more importantly it will fill you with the love for this stuff you absolutely must have in order to endure the bullshit
you always see people saying that there's no shortcut to becoming a good writer, you just have to write, and that's absolutely true. but there is another thing you could be doing and that's read as much as possible.

Here’s the thing I take from this: we absolutely have to hold our governments to their net zero pledges, and to try to over deliver. 3 C is beyond catastrophic. 2.5 C is devastating.

Less than 2 C is still going to lead to heartbreaking results.
New post on The Climate Brink from Zeke @hausfath.bsky.social about our climate future. With current policies, we’re on track for a bit less than 3C, with 2030 NDCs we’re on track for about 2.5C, and with net zero pledges we’re on track for a bit less than 2C.
