I wish the US would just get on with its next civil war. All the "will they, won't they" stuff is getting old, like Ross and Rachel in the later seasons of Friends. Although I'm not sure what Joey hooking up with Rachel would be in that analogy.

Would be fascinating to know what it is that's occupying our political leaders so much right now that they consider Musk's automated sexual abuse robot, hunger strikers who haven't even been convicted of anything dying of starvation, and Trump's international piracy minor distractions.
I am extremely confused as to why the UK government and police are saying Grok’s mass-scale CSAM generation is an issue for Ofcom.

This isn’t about X failing to moderate CSAM, which is an Online Safety Act issue. It is about the company and its technology being actively involved in its generation.

If the Palestine Action hunger strikers die - which they could do at any moment, as they are now very close to the end - it will be the government that killed them. Today’s column explains why. Please share, and write urgently to your MP.

Let’s be clear: if the Palestine Action hunger strikers die, the government will bear moral responsibility | George Monbiot
The three remaining hunger strikers have been convicted of nothing. Yet with astonishing cruelty, ministers refuse to listen to their reasonable demands, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

You do get the sense that even "ethical" AI guys haven't engaged much with Emmanuel Levinas. Until an LLM can look you in the eye and feel the weight of its responsibility towards the other (i.e., never), we probably shouldn't be outsourcing any decisions that affect human lives to it.
Nothing that an "AI" does has any anchorage in material reality, it's all just code, continuously juggling. It has no grounded understanding of anything, no responsibility, no reasoned sense of consequence, or anything else...
Oh my god…

1. The European Parliament’s attempt to ban plant-based foods from being sold as “sausages”, “burgers” etc is a direct response to livestock industry lobbying. This is a short thread on how utterly bleeding ridiculous it is. 🧵1/6

Thanks to all who have reposted this thread to help get the word out. The selling of these books "as new" on Amazon is making it more difficult for Unbound authors to rebuild what we lost and move on.
Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

So we are clear welfare spending in this country is NOT “out of control”. It’s risen very little in 10+ years. Small increase due to ageing & ill population. But benefits to working age families & children have been cut severely. Over 70% of children in poverty live in working families #Budget2025

Labour should ditch Starmer, give a new PM enough run-up for elections that are still years out, and actually govern with a belief in good policies not racist and self-destructive pandering to the far right.

Given the propensity for billionaires to lose their minds and dedicate their limitless resources to pursuing wildly delusional goals that undermine democracy, debate and human dignity, it feels like there's probably a national/international security case for taxing them out of existence.
Robert answers the big question: who does Peter Thiel think the antichrist might be? And we learn about the time he considered cryonically freezing his own head after death.
