Some fungi are so small they are only likely to be found by deliberate searching. This curiosity was shown to me today at Whitlingham. The 'large' structure here is an old nail gall on a lime tree leaf caused by Eriophyes tiliae. The fungus, Ophiognomonia melanostyla, is the tiny black prongs on it!

Natterers bat (Myotis nattereri) in torpor-a state of decreased physiological activity, usually marked by:reduced body temperature & metabolic rate. Torpor enables animals to survive periods of reduced food availability. Insect availability in winter is low so bats have evolved to hibernate.

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza persists, goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the OPT continue to be imported into Britain's markets - proceeds of a crime under international law.

The govt must urgently ban the import of these goods and press for aid to flow into Gaza.
