We should probably be placing incarcerated people in prisons closest to their homes.

Why?

Assigning individuals to prisons closer to their home reduces recidivism.

Really?

Yep. Being placed close to one's home increases social contacts that appear to reduce reoffending.

In my opinion, Trump's shift on this issue ("stop raiding farms and hotels") demonstrates the US needs to have an honest conversation about the role of undocumented immigrants in this country. And who constitutes this population. I'm afraid the rhetoric has already poisoned the well.
SCOOP: The Trump admin has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling ICE officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three officials with knowledge.

Long delays on the DART all evening due to someone driving into the Sandymount level crossing. Again. We need to fine and punish people who do it but, really, we need to remove these level crossings in the city. Traffic and trains don't mix.

What's most tedious about all this is that these tactics aren't novel or ingenious. This is how online bigots have acted for decades. To know this is to have been on the internet. Yet it's being reported on by people who sound like they've heard good things about the web and might try it some day.
